I darted away from the bar and answered the call from Lay.

“Where are you, man?” I asked in a fake happy voice.

“Mav, I need you here,” Lay’s voice said. “You have to come get your girl under control.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Don’t lie anymore, man,” he said. “Madison…”

“Tell him!” I heard Madison’s voice yell.

“What the fuck is going on?” I growled into the phone.

“Madison is holding me hostage with pepper spray!”

I hadno idea what I was going to find when I entered the locker room.

It was empty.

“Lay!” I called out.

“I’m in here!” Lay’s voice called back. “The shower! Help! She’s fucking crazy!”

I jogged toward the shower and didn’t know whether to be scared or laugh my ass off at what I saw.

There was Lay, huddled in the corner of the showers, fully clothed, hands up trying to cover his face.

Madison stood a few feet away in a perfect fighting stance, her right arm extended, holding a can of pepper spray, ready to attack.

She looked back at me, her eyes as big as I had ever seen them.

“You said nobody was here,” she growled at me.

“I thought Lay was at the restaurant,” I said.

“I came here to work on something,” Lay said. “I wanted to do it alone. It was for Coach. I put something on his desk. I didn’t know I’d be attacked!”

“I didn’t attack you!” Madison yelled at Lay. “Keep your tone in check or I will spray you!”

“Come on, this is insane!” Lay cried out. “Mav, help me out!”

“He can’t help you for a second here,” Madison said.

“Maybe I can,” I said. “Just relax for a second. Everyone. I think this is a huge misunderstanding. Madison had my shirt. She was just bringing it back. She grabbed it by accident the other day.”

“Bullshit,” Lay said. “Don’t lie to me, Mav. I’m not an idiot. I know what’s going on here. You’re banging the new GM’s daughter! The guy who threatened to hurt any of us who went near her!”

“I have a name,” Madison said. “Say it!”

“Madison,” Lay said. “Your name is Madison. Just put the pepper spray away. I’m not going to say anything.”

“Stop saying that,” Madison yelled.

“Mav!” Lay cried out.

I stuck my fingers into my mouth and whistled. “The two of you be quiet. Right now.”

Lay remained on the floor in the corner, huddled up.
