“You want the truth?” Remi asked.

“Please.”

“When you look at Maverick,” he said. “You look like you just fell in love for the first time in your life.”

“That’s crap,” I said. “Pure crap.”

Remi looked at Maverick.

“She hates commitment,” Maverick said. “It’s a fun battle to go through with her.”

“Fuck you both,” I said. “Now go away. Both of you. This is insane.”

Remi walked away first.

Maverick lingered for a couple extra seconds.

Then he began to walk away.

I chewed at my bottom lip and sighed.

I ran toward Maverick and grabbed the back of his jersey.

He stopped and turned.

I wanted to tell him I needed a kiss.

Or I should have just jumped up and kissed him.

My lips quivered for a moment.

Then I said, “We should stay away from each other, Mav.”

He didn’t reply.

He just walked away.

And that’s how my crappy night continued.

I gottickets to the game for Zoe and Eva, as I didn’t have to take pictures during the game.

Which meant my crappy night was put on a slight pause since I was able to sit with my two best friends and watch the hockey game.

The game normally didn’t interest me for a second.

I’d sooner watch paint dry in a humid room than watch a minute of hockey.

But the sport had sort of grown on me.

Okay, Maverick had grown on me.

We sat behind the bench of theApple Cats.

“Hey, look at your guy down there,” Eva said to me with an elbow nudge.

“I bet she says that to herself almost every night,” Zoe said.

“Are you two going to do this to me all night?” I asked.
