“What?” I asked. “No. Did he really tell you that?”

“He told everyone that,” Madison said.

“Oh, what a fucking moron,” I said. “He tries so hard to look tough and cool. Just ignore him. He’s afraid of needles. There’s no way he’d get anything pierced.”

“Are you sure? Are you going to look when you get into the shower after the game?”

“Sure,” I said. “Just for you, sweetie. I will gladly gaze upon another man’s cock. Deal?”

“Uh, no,” Madison said. “But I will make you a deal.”

“What?”

“You better not give up a goal tonight,” she said.

“No?”

“Not one goal, Mav. Or else you don’t get me.”

“You’re going to hold out on me?” I asked. “You just said you were in the mood.”

“I am in the mood,” Madison said. “But I can take care of myself. If I need to. And I will need to if you give up a goal. Got it?”

“That’s a lot of pressure,” I said.

“Good. You’ve been lazy lately.” She then slapped my face and smiled.“Good luck tonight.”

I liftedmy goalie stick and stopped Abel from walking by me in the locker room.

“How’s Izzy?” I asked.

“Amazing,” he said. “How’s Madison?”

“Beyond amazing,” I said.

Remi sat down next to me. “Ready for tonight?”

“More than ready,” I said. “Can’t wait to get back in net. Put all this crazy shit behind us.”

“Good,” Remi said.

“Hey. How’s the puppy?”

“You want to know the truth?”

“Sure.”

“She’s hooked on me,” Remi said. “She went from sleeping in my dresser drawer to sleeping everywhere I am. She follows me. Barks at me. Always wants to play. She’s driving me crazy. And Mari? Mari just loves it.”

I smiled. “So you’re happy.”

“Happier than I’ve ever been,” Remi said.

The locker room door opened and in walked Alonso.

The room fell silent.

“No need to stop because of me,” he said. “Just wanted to wish you guys good luck. I’ll be behind the bench for tonight’s game. Wanted to give you all some good news. Carrie did just fine with her surgery. She’s alert and she already told Coach to get his ass down here and coach the game.”
