Chapter Seven

MAVERICK

Great, now I need a fucking date.

I really had no idea what made me text Madison.

The sight of her father acting the way he did on the ice to apparentlyprotect his daughterleft me really uneasy.

Plus, I did break the woman’s camera lens.

I wasn’t sure what I had been thinking on the ice either.

Just seeing her… hearing her name…

I had to get her alone and figure out what the hell had happened between us and why.

Now to finish this situation once and for all, I had to find a date.

A fake date, obviously.

Or maybe not a fake date at all.

There was no better way to bail on someone than to find someone else, right?

Look at the Chloe situation.

I caught her humping some random guy and I ended up in bed with Madison.Or maybe she really was her alter ego, Grace, that night.

Well, if that was the case, then maybe Madison could take the pictures for the hockey team and Grace could spend some time with me. Because the way Grace moved in bed was something magical.

I mentally slapped myself.

I needed a date.

Normally I could handle that kind of thing on my own. But I was in a little bit of a pinch. The date I needed was someone who understood who I was and what I was looking for. I also didn’t have time to waste.

That left me with no choice in the matter.

“I’ve got to call Lay,” I whispered to myself.

I walked to my fridge, ripped it open and grabbed a beer.

One good gulp sent half the bottle down my throat.

“Fuck,” I said.

I had to call Lay.

Calling Lay looking for him to hook me up with a woman was like feeding a raccoon some dinner scraps. Do it once and they’d never leave you alone.

In reality I could have just let it all go right then and there.

The thing with Madison was a one-night stand.

Which we had.

We drank, laughed, flirted, and worked our way back to my place. We both understood by morning ourrelationshipwould cease to exist. And it all worked out.
