Chapter Eight

MADISON

How did the rest of that night go?

I had a decent meal and listened to Gary talk about selling insurance.

Behind me I had to endure the comedy hour of Maverick.

His airhead of a date giggled at everything he said. And with each sip of her drink, she got louder.

At the end of the date, I told Gary I was cramping. That it was my time of the month. All I had to do was mention the wordtamponand he almost jumped out of the car while it was still moving.

So that took care of him.

Once in my apartment, I washed up, changed into my pajamas and climbed into bed.

Now falling asleep was a whole other issue.

It wasn’t my business, but I wondered if Maverick was going to keep to his word.

I wondered if he was going to sleep with his date or not.

I played my part in this, right?

I sent Gary packing.

Now I kind of wanted to know that Maverick did the same.

Because the thought of that woman he was with and her giggling… her little perky body and boobs bouncing…

Eventually I did manage to fall asleep.

When I woke up the next morning, I almost had a hangover feeling.

Probably from thinking way too much.

I shuffled my way from my bed to the couch.

I still had a couple hours to relax before my day had to start.

Or so I thought.

I heard banging on my apartment door and I groaned.

“It’s Zoe! I need your help! Open up! Don’t make me find my spare key! I brought coffee and food!”

I threw the blanket off my body and unlocked the door for Zoe.

She handed me a huge coffee. “There. Payment for bothering you.”

“Food?” I asked.

“Greasiest stuff I could find,” she said.

“What’s wrong?”

“Need your thoughts on a song,” she said.
