“I was just getting you fired up,” I said. “You can still throw a punch if you want.”

“Nobody is throwing a punch today,” Remi said as he wrapped an arm around Abel and pulled him back.

I saw Madison was now on the ice, still taking pictures.

Riff and Lay were skating near her, fighting for a puck.

Lay threw his shoulder into Riff and Riff went right into Madison.

Madison was quick to cradle her camera as she fell to the ice.

I hated the idea that she was on the ice.

This was why.

I heard Riff yellFuck!

Lay kept skating and turned, then realized Madison was on the ice.

Madison’s father just stood off the ice, talking on his phone.

I dropped everything in my hands and hurried to see if she was okay.

“I’m sorry about that,” Riff said. “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine,” Madison said. “My ass broke the fall.”

“Here, let me help you up,” I said. I offered my hand and I pulled her up. “Are you sure you’re okay?”

“I’ll be fine,” she said. “Can I go into the locker room for a second?”

“Sure you can,” Riff said. “Do you know where it is?”

“I’ve got it,” Madison said.

She hurried away from Riff and me.

Then I turned my head and locked eyes with Lay.

“Real fucking smart,” I growled.

“What did I do? She was in the way.”

“Shut up, Lay,” I said.

He skated closer to me. “Hey, that nice ass of hers though? It sure took that fall like a champ.”

That’s when I grabbed for Lay’s jersey.

Riff slammed his hands between Lay and me, breaking my hold.

Riff pushed at my chest. “Go walk it off, Mav. I have no idea what your problem is today but you’re acting like a huge prick.”

“He needs to get laid,” Lay said.

“I’m going to get my hands on him and hurt him,” I said to Riff about Lay.

“Go take a minute,” Riff said.
