Chapter Six

Kris

The perks of being a movie star are you know many people. One of those people is a friend who owns an island in Hawaii. There’s no one here but us—no staff, no reporters, just Athena and me.

Athena is lying naked by the pool with only her foot in the water. She tans so easily in the sun, and her hair has gotten even lighter from our short time here. I wish we could stay, but duty calls, and there’s no way I’d ever let Andy Westin down.

Since we’ve been here, Athena has been more relaxed, but as the week comes to a close, she’s starting to feel more anxious. I’ve asked her several times if it’s because our honeymoon is so short, and she keeps saying no, everything is perfect, but I know her, and something isn’t right.

Sitting beside her, Athena opens her eyes, and I hold out a glass of champagne.

“You know, I could get used to this.” She sits up and shuffles forward so both feet dangle in the pool. Twisting slightly, Athena takes the glass from me. “What are we celebrating?”

“Us.”

Leaning forward, she kisses me lightly. “I’ll drink to that.”

We clink our glasses together, and she takes a sip.

“You like?”

“Umm, this is good. This entire trip has been good. We needed time away.” Athena leans against me. “Wanna come for a swim?”

Reaching up, I take a lock of her hair between my fingers. “It’s almost gone blonde. You look like you did when we were fifteen.”

Athena laughs. “Hardly! A few more wrinkles and…” she looks down at her boobs, “… these are definitely bigger.”

“No wrinkles, and yep, they’re bigger,” I say with a grin.

Athena nudges me, puts her glass down, and slips into the pool. I’m not wearing a shirt, only trunks, so I follow her.

There’s not much need for clothing here—the temperature is warm almost all year around.

Swimming in a circle around me, Athena dives under the water. She appears in front of me and places her arms on my shoulder and her legs around my waist.

“Do you think we can come back here?”

“I’m sure Johnny won’t mind.”

“Does he come here often?”

“Not since his divorce. To be honest, I think he’s going to sell it.”

Athena’s eyes light up. “Could we buy it?”

Chuckling, I move us toward the shallow end of the pool, so my feet are on solid ground. “I’m not sure we could afford it.”

She cocks her head to the side. “I have money. We’ve never talked about our finances before.”

“No, we haven’t. How about we leave that for another day?”

“Only if you ask Johnny how much he wants for this piece of paradise.”

Kissing her neck, I nod. “You’ve got yourself a deal.”

Athena’s books have been in the top ten many times over. I know she has a publishing deal, but she’s been making noises about going independent. She has many friends who are making more money than her, but it means she’ll be doing everything from marketing to designing the covers of her books. I believe she’d enjoy having complete control, but my girl needs to figure that out for herself.

As for me, my fee goes up with each movie. Occasionally, I do a movie for love if it’s about something I’m passionate about. My schedule for the next five years is crazy. I’ll be making movies all over the world.
