Todd walks a little faster and goes around the corner before we can get there. Sure enough, there’s a table laden with food. Everything from iced donuts to fruit, so you can be as good or bad as you please.
“Kris!” gushes Carla Rupert, the film’s leading lady, as she hurries toward me. “Look at you a day late but looking so fabulous!”
Carla kisses both my cheeks, but her barb doesn’t go unnoticed by Athena, who steps between us and holds out her hand.
“Hello, I’m Athena Livingston, Kris’wife, and you are?”
Carla steps back and takes Athena’s hand. “So nice to meet you, Athena.” She looks around Athena to me. “It’s nice they let you bring your wife to work.”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t get your name?”
Thrusting out my chest and smirking at Athena’s dominance, I try not to laugh as Carla’s eyes bug out of her head. Right now, she’s one of the hottest female actors on the planet. You’d have to live under a rock not to know who she is.
“I’m Carla Rupert.”
“Nice to meet you, Carla.”
Carla’s other hand flutters to her chest, and she blinks rapidly. “You too.”
Athena has put Carla in her place, and she has no idea what to do about it.
“Carla, where are our trailers?” I ask as she tugs on her ear.
“Oh, if you’ll follow me?” Carla glances at Athena and walks ahead of us.
Whispering, I say, “That’s my girl.”
“Peopleknowyou’re married, don’t they?”
Todd chuckles. “Well, if they don’t, they do now.”
Grinning at him, we follow Carla as she weaves through the lot. Our trailers are on the other side of the building that we entered. Once we make it outside, Carla has regained some composure.
“Here we are!” Carla smiles at all of us, but her eyes rest on me. “See you in there.”
Athena watches her go. “I don’t like her.”
“I think she’s ugly,” says Todd.
Laughing, I open the trailer, and Todd goes in first, followed by Athena, then me. Todd does a sweep of the interior, making sure no one is lurking in the bathroom.
“All clear.”
Kissing Athena on the lips, I say, “Carla is a work colleague. I’ll make sure to let her and anyone else who asks or doesn’t ask that I’m married and that my wife has a bodyguard who’ll shoot them if they misbehave.”
“Damn straight,” agrees Todd.
Athena’s face softens, and she goes up on her tiptoes to kiss me. “Good.”
With a shake of my head, I walk back to the open door. “You have nothing to worry about.”
“Oh, I know. ‘Cause Todd will shoot them if I do.”
Todd barks out a laugh and flops down on a chair. “Have fun working.”
Locking eyes with him, I say, “Have fun looking after my wife.”
He winks at me, and I keep walking back toward the building we just left to start work for the day.
