4ALDRIC

Jett wastedno time flying at me, his face twisted into a mask of fury. “How dare you break in on our private moment!"

"You wear the odor of your husband’s cock on your breath, our Highness,” I added with a smirk. “Perhaps you might do me the favor of backing away before you give me no choice but to defend myself against your foulness.”

“Aldric.” Theon sounded weary. I shifted my gaze from a seething Jett to his husband and found Theon sprawled out on the throne with his cock still hanging from his pants. “Your insults are not welcome, nor are they appreciated.”

Jett’s violet eyes swirled with wild light. I’d caught him in a moment of carnal pleasure, and he was still in that heightened state of arousal, his emotions running high and close to the surface. How many times had I enjoyed him while he was in this condition? Amusing myself by keeping him on the edge. Seeing how long I could leave him suspended there before his mind broke.

There was a difference between now and those earlier days, however. The waves of heat radiating from him reminded me of his powers—how likely he was to lose control and blow a hole in the side of the castle.

He wanted my Omega dead. His own sister. I almost wished he would try to blow a hole through me. I’d have an excuse to put an end to him, Theon be damned. Nothing mattered more than what was mine.

“You never answered my question.” We circled each other, each stalking his opponent as we would fresh prey. “What right have you to tell my people what to do? How is it you’ve decided to raise a Synian army to invade Sypani?”

How dare you decide to call for my Omega’s head? What right have you to destroy what belongs to me and always will?Even in my blind rage, I was astute enough to recognize the critical importance of not overplaying my hand.

Neither of them could know my true reason for wanting Jaide.

Jett’s eyes flicked away from me for an instant, his tongue darting out to moisten his lips before he returned his attention to me. “What right have I? How can you ask that question when my husband introduced me as King of Syn?”

He smiled. It was brilliant yet chilling. “I am heir to Xerai. I do as I wish. You’re lucky I haven’t decided to have you destroyed for your insolence.”

I narrowed my eyes. “Am I supposed to thank you for that?”

“Aldric, please.” Theon chose this moment to shake himself from the haze of half-lived pleasure, tucking his impressive cock into his pants before rising from the throne. “Must we bicker this way when there are so many more important issues to discuss? Yes, the plan to destroy the Fae involves raising a Synian army to invade Sypani.”

He ran a hand over Jett’s hair, and the adoration written across his face threatened to make me gag. He was thoroughly besotted, in thrall to his husband. I’d never seen him this way and wished I could return to a time when I was unaware of how pathetic he’d become.

Jett turned his head to offer Theon a smile. “There you are. Always reasonable.” He shivered for some reason, swallowing hard, but his smile did not fade.

That drew a bitter, barking laugh from me. “Yes, ‘reasonable’ is the word I would immediately use to describe Theon.”

Jett’s head snapped around, his teeth bared in a snarl. “Once again, you’re forgetting who you’re speaking to. Things aren’t the way they used to be when we were first acquainted.”

The memory of those days made me boil. “Yes, I recall you being interested in your sister’s survival. Now, you want her dead.”

His brow furrowed, and when Theon began stroking his hair he jerked his head away this time. I had the twisted pleasure of watching Theon’s face fall while Jett ignored him to instead scowl at me. “That isn’t what this is about. You’re all wrong.”

“Please, illuminate me,” I said, all the while thinking: Easy. Go easy.

“I don’t want Jaide dead. I only want her back,” Jett said.

“Why would I get word of there being a price on your sister’s head if you don’t want her dead?”

“You must be talking to the wrong people.” Jett scratched his arm, averting his eyes before licking his lips again.

Theon rubbed his shoulder, murmuring softly. What was he saying? I didn’t want to know.

“So you’re telling me you wish to be reunited with your sister?”

“Of course. I love her.”

Was he telling the truth? I doubted it somehow. Not the entire truth, at least. This half-Fae freak was a mere child without even three decades’ worth of life experience. No matter his powers, he would always be left fighting against his youth and inexperience.

Whereas I, on the other hand, had lived for centuries. I'd seen nearly every flavor of treachery, heard every lie. I could admit, at least to myself, that in my younger days, I had succumbed to the sweetness of more than a few of those lies whispered in moments of weakness, lust, and need.

All of this was why, if this child believed he could lie to my face and get away with it, then he had a moment of great reckoning awaiting him.
