Even I had to hoot with laughter at that one. “Sure, no biggie. Witches. I'm sure if we pulled up, they’d hand over hundreds of fighters.”

“This has always been the plan. We were always going to ask the Witches for help. Remember?” Elliot said.

“Sure, but you were a little vague about the sort of help we’d be asking for. Do you honestly think they’re going to join up with us and risk their lives?” I asked.

“I'm sorry. I was unaware you had a better idea. Please, I'm sure we would all love to hear it.” Elliot’s eyes danced with light as he folded his arms over his bare chest, his brows rising a little bit at a time. “I'm waiting. I'm sure we all are.”

“Spare me the smug attitude,” I mumbled.

“They’ll understand that this is in all of our best interests,” Elliot said. “We can’t allow Theon and Aldric to have their way here. And we absolutely must protect you from Jett. I know,” he sighed when I opened my mouth to shout him down, “he’ll never kill you. Whatever you need to tell yourself.”

“Screw you,” I said.

“Would that I could,” Elliot replied with a cheeky grin. “Not that I couldn’t, thanks to—”

“Your dildo, yes, I haven’t forgotten.” How could I?

“Let's face it. It's as good an idea as any.” As usual, Parris seemed to have the final word. If he was willing to agree with any plan Elliot came up with, then there had to be some merit to it.

At least, that's what I needed to tell myself. Otherwise, we were all royally screwed.
