“And what would that be?” She tossed long, tangled black hair over her shoulder and lifted her pointed chin. “And do not consider being untruthful with me. We have ways of making you pay—yes, even one as powerful as you.”

“It's simple. You assist me in taking on Healynas, so I might reclaim my Omega who was stolen from me, and you can have your revenge. Theon believes I am here to gather an army for his purposes, so I would ask you to engage in a bit of subterfuge in the beginning.”

When she laughed, there was a gurgle to it, as if her lungs were full of briny water. Dawn flinched, but the siren pretended not to notice. “We are not unpracticed in the art of subterfuge, though for us it's more a matter of survival.”

“No longer will your life be a matter of mere survival. Don't tell me you haven't craved vengeance. This is your chance.”

“And do you believe you could destroy Healynas with our help?” the siren demanded.

“I'm counting on it.”

Her eyes narrowed into slits, thin lips pursed in thought. The feeling that time was slipping through my fingers was impossible to ignore, but I forced myself to stand tall beneath her scrutiny. Truthfully, I would have lost respect for her if she’d accepted immediately.

Finally, she inclined her head. “Very well. You shall have your army.”

And then, I will have my Omega.
