“I mean what I say.” Dawn raised a thin arm, pointing at me and snarling. “I will kill you for this. You took the last thing I had, the only thing that's been mine—really mine. You're going to die for what you've done.”

Parris and Garret tried to rush her, but it was Delphine who held them back. “Grief can turn the mind away from what is true.”

“Can we help her?” Elliot asked, materializing again.

I wanted to give him a good, hard smack, but it didn't have it in me.

It was me who answered, even if he directed the question to his mother. “I don't think anybody can. Did you see the bite marks? Aldric was using her, too. She's just as addicted as Jett was.”

And she wanted to kill me.

I only hoped Delphine was right. That Dawn was just talking out of her ass because she was upset. But since when did anything start going my way?
