She didn’t budge when Jen moved away. ‘But your flowers.’

‘It’s the thought that counts.’

Jen gave another gentle tug and Holly followed. It wasn’t long before they were in the main foyer and passing security. There was no denying the urgency to their step or the giddy look on their faces.

At least, that was, until they went through the first set of automatic doors.

The muggy heat hit, then the mist from the rain.

‘Fuck,’ Jen groaned, stopping in her tracks. The heavens had opened and torrential rain battered the flagstones outside.

Holly gripped Jen’s hand tighter. ‘It’ll pass.’

‘I can’t wait.’

An old man lingered by the open door, his shopping bags discarded by his feet. He snagged Holly’s gaze as she assessed the weather. ‘Hope you brought your brolly, lass.’

Jen watched as Holly smiled, noticing the shift in the brunette’s eyes as she switched gears from carnal Holly to small-talk Holly. ‘No such luck tonight. Looks like I’ll be getting soaked.’

Thunder rumbled overhead and the old man shuddered. ‘Won’t last long,’ he said, looking to the sky.

Jen didn’t want to wait; she’d done enough of that already. ‘Where you parked?’

Holly nodded to the right. ‘Just up by the trolley park. You?’

‘I walked.’

Holly smirked. ‘Looks like you’re the one getting soaked then.’

Jen walked them towards the door. ‘Will we go for it?’

Holly’s chest wavered as she took a deep breath, her eyes wanton again as they dragged the length of Jen’s body. ‘Yeah. Ready?’

‘You lead, I’ll follow.’

Jen braced herself, ready for the deluge. A few short strides and it was like stepping into a shower. Fuck, it was cold. Two seconds and she was soaked to the bone, her hair clinging to her scalp as they ran.

Lightning flashed and they jumped into the car, the doors slamming as they collapsed into the seats.

Holly’s eyes locked with Jen’s.

Time to finish what they started two days ago.

Holly’s lips crashed into Jen’s, hungry and unapologetic. The initial frenzy sated, they relaxed, finding a rhythm as Jen brought a hand to Holly’s jaw, pulling her closer.

For a second Jen forgot breathing was a necessity, preferring to focus on the way Holly’s lips felt pressed to hers.

A moan echoed and Jen didn’t know if it was from herself, Holly, or both, as their tongues intertwined. If it was her, it was from frustration; she wanted to be closer, but the damn confines of the car wouldn’t allow it. To be fair, though, she could be right on top of Holly and it still wouldn’t feel close enough right now.

She scooted nearer, her knees jarring on the gearstick, and pushed Holly back.

Holly responded with a smile, their lips still pressed together as she spoke. ‘This is so much more fun when I’m not overthinking things.’

‘You’re telling me.’

The rain battered the car, and the world of Holly and Jen was once more illuminated by lightning. Jen didn’t even flinch when thunder clapped right above them.

Holly did, though. ‘Holy shit, that’s close.’
