Jen comforted her the only way she knew how: by sliding a hand under Holly’s top, resting it at the bottom of her ribcage, not sure if she could go further and trust herself to stop. Her mouth explored Holly’s neck, marking its journey to her collarbone with slow kisses.

Holly’s hand gripped Jen’s joggers, pulling her in.

The handbrake jammed into her knee. ‘Ow, fuck,’ Jen groaned, trying to reposition herself and failing.

‘Let’s get back to yours,’ Holly said, her voice lower than Jen had ever heard.

She’d expected a slow night with Holly, maybe a movie after they’d had a chat. Not seriously contemplating if she could get away with touching her in the car park of Morrisons.

Jen stilled, her hand unmoving on Holly’s ribcage, unwilling to lose the ground she’d gained but knowing it was for the greater good.

‘Let’s make it quick,’ she said, rising level with Holly.

Holly’s mouth grew into a grin, her brown eyes darker than usual. One last lingering kiss, then Jen stole herself away, clicking in her seat belt to prevent further temptation.

She ran a hand over her sodden hair, sweeping it back. ‘Fuck, I’m so wet.’

Holly shot her a devilish smile as she reversed the car. ‘Home in five, don’t you worry.’

Jen nibbled her bottom lip, fighting the urge to expand on the joke. She was already fit to pop; talking about it wouldn’t help.

The windscreen wipers worked overtime, doing little to clear the glass as they sat at the lights. The storm didn’t show any sign of letting up soon.

‘Imagine if we’d waited,’ Jen said, eyes fixed on the traffic lights.

‘That guy would have got a show.’ Holly paused for a beat before talking again. ‘Doesn’t feel real, does it?’

‘Not one bit.’

Holly’s leg jiggled with nervous energy. ‘Is it just me or has this been red forever?’

‘Definitely taking longer today.’ Jen traced two fingers along the outside of Holly’s thigh, her skin still slick from the rain, the blonde’s digits gliding lazily to the edge of Holly’s shorts. ‘You have no idea how much I wanted you on Sunday.’

Holly turned to face Jen, her leg settling. ‘Not half as much as I wanted you.’ She ducked for a kiss, only to be stopped by Jen’s voice.

‘Green light.’

She laughed under her breath. ‘Probably for the best. I don’t think I’ll be able to stop again.’

‘Why didn’t we do this sooner?’

Holly scoffed, pulling a face as she leaned over and batted the passenger sun visor down. ‘You need a mirror? There’s one there.’

‘Hey,’ Jen whined back, playfully grabbing at Holly’s leg. ‘I deserve that, though. I thought I was being obvious.’

‘Obvious?’ Holly barked between laughter. ‘Jen, baby. Oh no, no, no. This has been a mess.’

‘Really? Cause to me it felt super obvious.’

Holly stole a look before returning her eyes to the road. ‘Are you sure you’ve not mixed the word up with something French that means the complete opposite?’

Jen crossed her arms, her jacket squelching, and pretended to be huffy. ‘My flirting might need some work.’

‘You can practice on me all you like now.’ They turned onto Skirving Street, Jen’s flat just around the corner. ‘Right, shout if you see a space.’

‘Here? We’re miles away.’

‘I know, but parking is crap at yours. I don’t have the patience to drive about.’
