Ian scowled at his brother. “You didn’t tell her you’d teach her, did you?”

Jessica placed her hand on her hip. “Why not?”

“I don’t want you getting hurt.”

She snorted. “If you don’t teach me and something comes, then Iwillget hurt.”

Brock chuckled again. “She has a point, Ian. Mom knows how to use a shotgun. Maybe Jessica should learn too.”

Ian’s jaw ticked back and forth. “Mom’s different.”

Jessica’s mouth dropped open. She glared at him.

Brock laughed. “Don’t let Mom hear you say that. They’re both townies, or have you forgotten? Dad taught Mom how to use a shotgun before they were even engaged. If you plan on having Jessica stay out here after this whole mess is settled, I think you should reconsider.”

She mouthed a “thank you” to Brock and stared daggers at Ian. “Either you’re going to teach me or I’ll find someone else to.”

Ian pressed his mouth into a thin line.

Brock laughed again.

“Shut up, Brock.”

“I’ll go get Sean. Meet us at my truck in five minutes.” He met Jessica’s gaze. “See you later, Jessica.” At least one Baker brother could be reasonable.
