“You’re asking me toleave?” he asks incredulously.

“I’m asking you to meet me later.”

I can’t hold in my snicker, causing them to look at me. I return Nick’s glare.

“You’re choosing to talk tothisguyover me?! Are youkidding?!”

“He’shurt, Nick! Can you not see that?”

I smile at that. I could grab her and kiss the daylights out of her right now.

“How do I know he didn’t do that to himself?” This kid is an idiot.

Fed up with this stupidity, I just stand up. Well, Itryto stand up. “I’ll just leave.”

“No,” she says, putting her hand up to me. She then turns back to Nick. “It’s time for you to go.” My smile grows.

He looks at me and then back at her before scoffing and leaving through the door.

She sits me down and disappears into the bathroom. Her room is so feminine with all the colors of blue, gray, and orange. She must’ve redecorated since the last time I’ve been here. On her shelf, she has a bunch of trophies and medals.A winner she definitely is.

She comes back into the room with gauze and alcohol in her hand. She stands in front of me and tries to put alcohol on some gauze, but all I want is to feel her. I grab for her to sit down on my lap, but she won’t budge.

“Jake, let me do this,” she urges.

“I just want you.Onlyyou. I deserve this pain, anyway.” God only knows I do.

She frowns at me. “No, you don’t. Please don’t say that again.” She places the gauze on my forehead, making me wince. This is my greatest downfall. As if the joy of hockey isn’t enough, my father’s fist is icing on the cake. These thoughts bring me back to the woman standing in front of me.

“You’re so fucking beautiful...”

She freezes before continuing to put alcohol on my wounds.

“Whatever.” She brushes me off. It breaks my heart when she does this. She tapes the rest of the gauze on my arm. “Lie down,” she says, trying to avoid eye contact. Her voice is breaking.

“Leia,” I say, grabbing for her. She tries to pull away, but I’m stronger. “Babe, look at me.”

She looks at me, and the tears building in her eyes break my heart. “I can’t stand to see you in this pain, Jake.” She softly wipes her eyes, like a little girl. She has such a...girlish, refreshing aura about her. That simple motion reminds me of a little girl who doesn’t get her way. But her frustration is warranted.

“Hey, don’t cry.” I pull her down to sit with me. She sits on my lap as I put my face in her neck. Her sobs make me so anxious. “This is my fault. I never meant to make you cry, Leia. I neverwantedto. I broke you to the point of insanity and blamed you for it. And I’m sorry.”

Her cries slow down as she continues with her sniffling.

“I don’t want you going back to your dad, okay? You don’t deserve this. This face means so much to me,” she says, stroking my cheek. This girl. I’m just about done for.

I brush my lips against hers, and she’s responsive. My tongue seeks entrance as my hands roam her stomach. I lay her down on her back, and she wraps her arms around my neck.

This is home.

Sheis home.

I gently pull back and look into her doe eyes. She’s it for me. I lean down and kiss the corner of her lips.

“I think I’m falling for you,” I whisper against her mouth.

She pulls back and looks at me, surprised. “You are?” she asks in awe.

“For a year straight.”
