God, she’s killing me. I can’t say what I want to say.

“Nick...is perfect for you.” Her eyes grow confused as she nods. “Do you want him?”Why did you ask that?

She rolls her eyes, laughing. “Yes, Jake. I gave my virginity to you and told you I’m falling for you almost a month ago, yet I still want him,” she chides.

So spunky. Can’t say it doesn’t turn me on; it definitely does. But...she’s out of reach. The universe doesnotwant us together.

“He’s good for you, Allie. You two are perfect.”

She opens her mouth to say something, but I’m already walking away before she can speak.

Whatever she’s about to say will break me more, and I’m not ready for any more casualties.

LEIA

Jake Larson walked away from me. And I’m afraid it’s for good this time.

He left the parking lot probably five minutes ago, but I can’t bring myself to move from the spot where I was just talking to him.

He’s good for you, Allie. You two are perfect.

Those words refuse to stop replaying in my head.

I’m walking back into the restaurant, trying to clear my head of what just happened. I don’t think I’m ever going to see him again.

If the universe doesn’t put us together again.

Nick has a disapproving look on his face when I make it back to the table. “What was that about?” he asks in an accusing tone.

“What waswhatabout?”

His eyebrows shoot up in surprise.

“You ditched me to go and talk to that loser.” I laugh a rueful one in response, making him flinch. “I told you about him already, Leia,” he growls.

“It’s full of shit, Nick. You’refull of shit,” I retort.

“Excuse me?”

“Whatreallyhappened that night? This is your last chance to tell the truth,” I warn.

His face turns red again as he glares at me. I’m tired of him trying to control me and talking crap about Jake. “I already told you what happened,” he whispers.

I shake my head at him. “Nick, I woke up with no panties on and inyourT-shirt,” I whisper back, my voice breaking. “You don’t care about me enough to tell the truth? Instead, you throw it all on a guy who wasn’t even at the party that night?”

He flinches again, his face draining of color. He opens his mouth to say something, but then he shuts it again.

“I don’t wanna lose you, Leia. You don’t understand,” he chokes out.

“You already lost me when you drugged me, Nick,” I whisper. His face turns blank as I reach into my purse and throw a $20 bill on the table. “Here’s my split. Don’t mention it.”

It’s the last day of school, and I couldn’t be happier. I turned in my last final for math. Now, we wait for finalfinalgrades to be released. I don’t even know what to do now.

Should I celebrate with the girls?

Perhaps I could go to the beach?

Maybe have a solo ice cream date?
