That’s lame, Leia.

The girls turned in their last final yesterday, so they spent the day at Zuma Beach today. They left me behind to deal with the aftermath of finishing my final and not having any plans.Well...this sucks.

I still haven’t figured out whether or not I’d like to do the apprenticeship in New York. That’s a top-tier publishing house. I don’t even think I’d be able to keep up with those people. But then again...she does have the confidence in me that I’ll flourish this summer. I haven’t been to New York in a few years now; it’ll be nice to go back.

I spent the entire day in my dorm, packing up my room and preparing to go back home tomorrow. The seniors graduated this morning. Sarah and Taya texted and told me they went to watch. Jake graduated Magna Cum Laude.

I smiled when they told me. Such a brooding jock with a brain. I just couldn’t bring myself to go to the graduation. I’m happy for him and the hockey guys, but I can’t go back there again. He walked away from me yesterday, and he looked like he couldn’t get away fast enough.

It’s much more refreshing to just sit on my bed, listen to music, and watch Netflix for the rest of the night. I look in the corner of my room and see the suitcase and boxes I packed. It hasn’t fully dawned on me yet that I was just moving into this room nine months ago.

Four senior guys offered to help bring my boxes up, and from then on, I assumed that was how my college experience was going to go; everyone was going to be super nice, and drama was the last thing on my mind. Up until getting involved with Jake Larson, I think my life was pretty smooth sailing for a long time. But...freshman year is a bittersweet ending.

Bittersweet Symphony. The perfect song to end the night.

I click on it on my playlist and lie down.

It’s 10:33 p.m. Sitting up, I look at my alarm clock, freaking out. I didn’t expect to sleep for five hours. I missed dinner, and I’m hungry. The girls cleaned out our fridge yesterday, so there’s no food. All of the campus restaurants are closed by now, so I’m pretty much screwed. Annoyed with my current predicament, my phone ringing distracts me.

I frown when I see Sarah’s name.

“Hello?”

Suddenly, loud music plays in the background, blasting through my ears, making me jump. It takes a few seconds before Sarah’s loud voicealsoblasts through my ears.

“Leia! Oh my gosh, you should be here right now!” Is she drunk? What’s going on?

“Where are you? I thought you guys would be back by now.”

There’s another moment of silence, and I start to worry that maybe I’ve lost her.

Her voice makes me jump again. “Oh,no, Taya wanted to stop by Greek Row to celebrate the last day of school,” she shouts. Greek Row? Of course, everyone’s throwing parties right now.

“So you guys are at a frat party?” I already know the answer, but I just want her to humor me.

Sarah suddenly starts giggling, telling me she’s had a drink or two. “Yes, girl! And Jake Larson is pretty lit right now,” she laughs out. My ears zero in on that. Jake is drinking. That can’t be good. “You...might need to stop by, love. He’s...pretty wasted. He keeps asking where you are.”

My heart thuds in response. “I can’t show up there, Sarah. Can you guys just get here?” Suddenly, a deep male voice talks in the background, freaking me out. Sarah and the guy have a brief scuffle before silence fills the phone. “Hello?”

“Heyyyyyyyy, pretty lady.” Jake Larson. I shut my eyes in frustration. “I’ve missed you.”

“Jake, you’re drunk,” I deadpan.

His laugh rumbles through the phone, tingling my insides. Even drunk, he has that power.

“Icouldbe drunk on you right now.” He laughs at his own joke, and I’m immediately amused.

“Jake—”

A loud boom sounds in the background, cutting me off. Jake’s voice leaves the phone as he starts yelling at someone, and loud crashes start to ensue. What the hell?

Sarah’s voice is back on the phone while the sounds still play in the background.

“Leia, youreallyneed to get here. Jake is fighting some freshman right now,” her voice wavers through the phone. Shit.

“I’ll be there in a few minutes,” I pledge, hanging up. I throw on my hoodie and sneakers, before heading out of the door.

I guess I’m going to see him one last time.
