Sarah was right; Jake is very much lit right now. Walking into the frat house, the music is still playing, but Jake is on top of a small guy, throwing punches at him. What the hell is going on?

I rush over to him, trying to pull him off.Trying oh-so hard. There’s no way I can pull 200 lbs. of muscle off of someone. He throws one last punch before I grab his arm, making him turn around. The angry, fiery glare is replaced with a softening smile.

“Leia,” he says euphorically. His smile grows as he stands up and gives me a bear hug, making me yelp. “Oh, baby, I’ve missed you so much.”

I look around the room as everyone stares at us, confused.

“Jake, you have to put me down. It’s time for bed.”

He pulls back, looking into my eyes. They’re bloodshot. How much has he had to drink? “But I just want to hold you,” he whines.

I want to laugh, but that would make matters worse. I try one thing to see if it works.

“Jacob,” I say softly. His eyes meet mine again, something new in them. “Put me down.”

He gives me a small smile before nodding and putting me down. Everyone still looks confused, but I’m the only one who really knows Jake Larson. He’s a gentle soul with a scary face.

I look at Sarah and Taya, who are smiling mischievously at me. I frown at them, and they walk over.

“What was that about?” Sarah has a weird twinkle in her eye. These girls need to go to sleep.

“Nothing. Look, I’m gonna clean him up and take him to bed.” They both give me big smiles. “Hey, behave.” Now they’re giggling.

“We’ll meet you back at the dorm, then. I’m tired,” Taya says, yawning. I give her a small smile as Sarah begins to protest. “Come on, Sarah. Time for bed, girly.” Taya turns to me, giving me a wink. They’re leaving through the door in no time.

Everyone in the frat has seemed to go their own way, dancing, drinking, the works. I look back at Jake, and he’s wobbling around staring at me. He gives me a goofy smile. “You came to see me,” he says happily.

I can’t help but smile back at him.

It’s a longshot, but I reach my arm around his shoulder, and he wraps his arm around my waist. I try to drag him upstairs, but it’s a workout. A drunk Jake Larson.Just my luck. The guy is nearly 200 lbs. How the fuck can I carry that? Seeing him like this hurts, whether I like it or not.

He’s mumbling something in my ear, but I’m too annoyed to pay attention. We make it into his room, and I drag him to his bed. Well...drophim on his bed.

“Did you hear me...” he mumbles as he fixes himself on his pillow. His head is downward, so I move closer by sliding the chair over.

Sighing my annoyance, I take off my shoes because this will clearly be a long night. “Did I hear what, Larson?”

“Isaidddddddd,” he drags out and chuckles at it. Dear God. “You smell so good.”

“Thank you, Larson.”

He smiles, not wanting to open his eyes.

When I’m convinced he’s fallen asleep, I go to the bathroom and wipe off my makeup. This was supposed to be a fun night. It’s the last day before summer break, and sophomore year is slowly approaching. But of course, Larson messes everything up for me. The thing is, I’m not sure if he’s fully to blame.

I keep allowing him to mess things up for me.

Jake fucking Larson has ruined my life, and I let him.

I almost cry. I never imagined my college experience would be chasing a guy. A guy who is in no way into me the way I’m into him. I just need to brush this off. It’s only the end of freshman year. There will be more years to come.

Happy with this outlook, I take my jacket off and throw it on the toilet. Leaving the bathroom, I sit in the chair. Larson has definitely fallen asleep. I could make this my exit. I could go back to my dorm room and enjoy the rest of my night. But I can’t bring myself to leave him like this. Heaving a sigh, I just sit there and grab my phone and earphones. If I’m going to babysit him, I might as well listen to music while I do.

Bittersweet Symphony. Once again, sounds about right for this occasion.

One earphone in, I’m closing my eyes, and just as the first chorus rides out, he snores himself awake as he mumbles something. My eyes snap open to find his still closed. He mumbles it again. It sounds like my name, but it’s barely audible. I turn down my music, and he mumbles yet again. It’s loud and clear enough to notice it’s my name.

“Allie, you still there?” he asks, half-awake. Maybe he’s having a nightmare.
