What the hell is wrong with me?

Why can’t I just admit it to her?

Because she intimidates you.

She’s the least scary girl I’ve met in my life.

And yet you’re intimidated by her.

Annoyed, she walks past me to leave. Shit, I’m such a jerk. Silently cursing myself, I just fess up. I stop her before she opens the door.

“Wait.”Don’t leave me.

“What?” There’s a moment of silence. She waits for me to say something. What do I say without sounding like an idiot?Get out of your head. This is a five-foot-three girl. She won’t bite you.

“Of course I was jealous, okay? I tasted your lips, babe. You think it won’t bother me when I see guys notice the same things I do?” My eyes take a glance at said lips. It bothers me more than it should.

“Larson, you pushed me away,” she says, hurt. Hurting her is the last thing I ever want to do.

“I know...” What else is there to say? I know I’m a bastard. My ‘dad’ even knows this. The fucker’s been telling me that since junior high. But I can’t have her thinking the same thing.

“Then let go of me. I have practice.” It’s a cop-out. She might have practice, but I instantly freak. She’s trying to dodge.

“I’ll take you,” I blurt out. How? You live on a college campus and she’s walking distance to the track.

“I can walk, Larson.”

I can’t win with this girl. She tries to pull away again, but I gently pull her back. She lets out a sigh of annoyance.

“What are you doing after practice?”

“Sleeping.”

“Come to my party tonight.” I wasn’t going to invite her since it didn’t end well last time. But any time I can spend with her is precious.

“No, I hate parties.”

I frown. “Since when?” I ask more aggressively than I meant to. But seriously, who the hell hates parties? That’ll soon change once she starts the real college experience.

“Since I learned girls go to frat parties.”

“Did you think it was an all-boy party, doll?” I tease. Again, she does not seem amused with my teasing.

“Do you think I’m stupid?”Not even a little bit, love.“I’m not going to a party where attention-craving girls give me glares. So thanks, but no thanks.”

I didn’t even think about that. No girl will compare to her, but I can understand where she’s coming from. I’ll make sure she has the time of her life. She’ll come to the party and enjoy it, dammit.

“Babe, please come to my party.”I’ll make sure to take care of you and make sure you have a good time. She thinks about it for what feels like a century before relenting.

“Fine, Larson. But tell your girls to be on their best behavior, or I’m out.” So fucking spunky. I love it.

“I only know of one girl I’m interested in.”

“Absolute bullshit,” she says, obviously bored of the conversation.

“I call bullshit on your bullshit, babydoll.” This gets her to smile. She rolls her eyes. I have her back now.

“Don’t make me laugh. I’m still mad at you.” Be mad at me, be annoyed. As long as you’re talking to me, none of it matters.
