I can’t help but chuckle at that. “What does that mean?”

“Your whole personality is like a sales guy. You sell yourself to women all the time, and they all fall for it.”

“You think so highly of me, doll.” She rolls her eyes and scoffs before taking another sip. “And what about you? You don’t fall for it?”

“Jake...” I know...trying my luck.

“Sorry, too soon. What do you study?”

“I don’t feel obliged to say.” Well, fuck me.

“Oh come on! I thought we were getting pretty cozy with each other.”

“We were.”Okay, so what’s the problem? “Until you flirted with me.”

I raise an eyebrow at that. “Can you blame me?”

That winning smile shows up again. “Yes.”

“Come on, humor me.”So I can focus on something else besides your lips.

“Engineering. Software, to be exact.” I freeze. Did I hit the jackpot or what?

“Damn, a smart one.”

“An even more dedicated one. I wish I had the time to go to parties like everyone else, but most of the time I can only study.”

It all makes sense now. She’s so mature for her age. Some people don’t even know their major in their junior year of college. And here this girl is, track and field star, engineering major. And she happens to be the girl I’m chasing after.

“So that means no party tonight for you?”

“Nope. Not unless I’m invited to one,” she chuckles. I’m tempted to assume that’s a subliminal message. I smile at her.

“My frat’s having a back-to-school bash tonight. Do you wanna come?”

“I don’t know, Jake.” She gives me a sad pout. “I hate those parties, to be honest. Who keeps inviting those mean girls? Your president needs to change his guest list.”

I wince at her sad face. “I’m sorry, Leia. I should.” She gives me a confused look. I smile at her.

“Why would you be sorry?”

I let out a sigh. I should’ve told her. I didn’t want her to think I’m a typical frat boy. But I can’t have her hating the parties on Greek Row.

“President of Sau Sigma Zi, meet Leia Walton. Feel free to call me King.” I wink for good measure. For a second, I think she’s going to yell at me. But she gives me a sheepish smile.

“Of course you’re the president. Why not inconvenience my life some more?”Don’t sound too excited about it, love.

“Your words hurt, Miss Walton.”

“Cute.”

“I know.”

“Anyway,” she says, desperately trying to ignore this between us, “I’ll go under one condition.” I cock an eyebrow.

“And what’s that?” I’ll give her my leg and arm if she asks me to at this rate.

“I bring my friend Taya. You’ve met her before. I can’t keep going to those parties alone.”
