“Nick, I’ll be right back.”

He sighs his annoyance and kisses her on the cheek. He’s her boyfriend, dude. Calm down.I can’t even think about it anymore because I grab her arm and pull her into the hall.

“Hey, don’t snatch my arm,” she snaps, pulling away.

“Why didn’t you tell me you were here?”

“Uh, because I didn’t think you’d care?”

“You showed up with him again. At my frat. And you didn’t tell me you were coming. Don’t be glib.”Or I’ll do something we’ll both regret. I get hard-ons for lippy girls.

“First of all, like I told you before,he’s my boyfriend. Second of all, he told me he had practice tonight. And third of all, he’s the only person here who actually wanted to hang out with me, so what’s your deal?” Theonlyone?

“MaybeIwanted to hang out with you.” If I’d known she’d be here.

“Jake, no...we talked about this. I have a boyfriend.”

I roll my eyes. “I really don’t give a shit. That guy’s not right for you.”

“Andyouare? Besides...you seemed pretty busy to me, Larson.” Oh...that’s her problem. Now it makes sense. She saw me with that girl. I glance back at the brunette, who seems to be busyherself. Brock seems to have a hold of that already. I can’t contain the smile that’s forming on my face. “What are you so happy about?” God, I need to feel her. Leaning in, I try to kiss her, but she stops me before I can. She gives me a questioning look. “Whoa, what are you doing?”

“You’re so cute when you’re jealous, Leia.”Sofucking cute. Like I want to pick her up and throw her on my bed cute.

“Jealous? No, n—I...I’m notjealous,”she bites out.

“Well, that sucks. I love it when you’re jealous.” She crosses her arms as she faces me head-on.

She crosses her arms as she faces me head-on. “Oh, my distress makes you happy?”

I just smile at her. “Youmake me happy, Leia.”

I shouldn’t have admitted that. It’s too telling...but it’s too true at the same time. I’ve only known her for a year. If that. And I can’t avoid her. I can’t keep putting off my attraction to her for the sake of herboy-toy.

I look for affirmation on her face. Somewhere.Anywhere. She just stares back at me, clearly confused about my proclamation. If she doesn’t react soon, I’ll take matters into my own hands. That’s assault, Larson.

“Leia, please say something.”Anything.

“I don’t know what you want me to say to that, Larson. I’ve already told you what drama you and me talking in front of Nick will cause.” His name again. I’m gettingveryannoyed hearing his name in every conversation.

“What’s the deal with him? Why are you so drawn to him?”

She raises her brows at that. “What’s thedeal? What do you mean?”

“Whatisit about him? Why do you put up with a guy like him? He seems like an ass.” I barely know the guy and I’ve gathered that from the night he freaked out when I eye-fucked her. There has to be something about their relationship, though. Is it arranged?

“I don’t think that’s any of your business, Larson. I barely know you.”

“I know you enough, babydoll. And I know that he doesn’t deserve you.”

“And you do?”

She’s trying to make a point. But she’s not. I don’t deserve her either. The things that I want to do to her...that’s not something you do to a girl you’d want as your serious girlfriend.

But I can’t deny the feelings I have for her. At first, yeah, she was pretty to look at. And it was fun to fantasize about the things I could do to that body of hers. It’s so much more than that. She’s gorgeous, but she’s also fragile. So fragile, I can’t break her. What can you offer her, though? Your body? Your looks?I don’t know what I can offer her. I may not be good for her, but I can’t bring myself to stop chasing her.

“No, babydoll. I don’t deserve you.” I can tell that she wasn’t expecting that. “But I won’t deny that I like you, Leia. That’d be lying.”

Her breath hitches, and I glance at those lips. I need to cool it. She’s not ready for feelings like these right now.
