Leia is wasted. Likecrazywaster. Like the girl can’t dance for shit when she’s shitface wasted. We’re all sitting in a booth when we see her on the floor, dancing alone. It’s definitely the cutest thing I’ve seen.

“And you said she’s agooddancer?”

We all laugh at Hunter’s comment. “I guess it’s probably a sober thing?”

Taya said Leia’s been dancing ever since she was ten years old, but the girl I see in front of me looks like she can’t find the beat. When Taya said that, I was excited to see her on the floor because I love hidden talents. But the monstrosity I’m seeing in front of me is hilarious.

“Maybe one of us should save her the embarrassment? She looks insane right now,” Sarah offers.

I look over at her, briefly surprised to see Brock’s arm hooked around her shoulder, and then back at the dance floor. She’s had a bad week. I don’t want to interrupt her having fun. I love seeing her let loose.

“Nah, I think she’s good. She’s had a hell of a week. I think we owe it to her to enjoy herself while still babysitting her.” Babysitting is right. Right after she’s done, I can only imagine how she’s going to act when we bring her back to her dorm.

I’m just glad to see we’re all having fun tonight. Taya and Hunter seem to be hitting it off, Brock obviously has a thing for Sarah, and I’m...best friends with the girl of my dreams. Not my ideal situation, but what can you do?

I take a swig of my beer and lie back.

“Whoa, what’shedoing here?” Brock’s voice makes me lift my head. I follow their gaze to the dance floor, and I’m annoyed at what I see. Nick. My blood boils, and my fist tightens around my beer. “Larson, dude. Don’t.”

I roll my eyes and look at him. “Don’twhat, dude? He’s trying to take advantage of her.”

“It’s not your place, though. They’redancing.”

“Excuse me? That’s my best friend,” Sarah asserts. That immediately shuts him up.

I look at Taya and Hunter, and they’re in their own world. Go figure.

“I didn’t mean it like that...”

I leave before I can hear the rest of their argument.

Leia is the only thing on my mind right now, and I’m not liking that she’s grinding against him and reaching for the hem of her top. I raise my eyebrows at that. I don’t care if she’s drunk or not, it pisses me off to see.

She’s still grinding into his crotch when I pull her away from him.

“Hey!” she screeches. I’ll deal with that later. She’s not drinking anymore. I don’t care what anyone says. If she’s drinking, it’ll be in moderation. I look at Nick, and he’s trying to size me up. We have a brief staring contest. The content look on his face pisses me off.

“What do you want, dude? I’m ready to dance with my girlfriend again.” Girlfriend.Suppress your anger, Jake. He’s just fucking with you.

“You’re an annoying little bastard, you know that?” He rolls his eyes at me. “You cheat on her and then you have the audacity to come here and dance with her when she’s clearly under the influence.”

Keep your cool.

“That’s between me and mygirlfriend, meathead. And you look pathetic right now, chasing after a seventeen-year-old girl.”

If he knows what’s good for him, he’d shut the hell up.

“I’m going to give you the count of three. If you don’t leave, shit won’t look pretty, all right? One.” He laughs and rolls his eyes again.

Keep your cool, Jake.

“What are you gonna do, huh? Punch me? In a bar full of people?” Suddenly, the bar goes a bit quiet.

“Two.”

He looks nervous. Good. He gulps and looks around but doesn’t let up.

“Nobody’s afraid of you, Larson.”
