I look around and see no one. No Sarah. No Taya. But then it hits me; six hockey trophies, an empty beer bottle on a desk, and the stench of testosterone tells me everything I need to know. Yep, Jake Larson indeed.

Sighing, I get up and look around for any sign of my clothes. But to no avail. I should be annoyed, but my head is banging like crazy to the point where I can’t focus. Why did he hide my clothes?

“Looking for your clothes?”

The deep voice makes me jump, and I turn to see a shirtless Jake yet again. Goddamn abs. Looking away, I clear my throat and focus on what he said.

“Excuse me?”

He tilts his head, staring at me. “You were asking why I hid your clothes.”

I did? I rememberthinkingit. “I asked that out loud?”

“No, but I know your mind, doll. So predictable.”

I should be creeped out, but that’s oddly insightful.

“Um, I didn’t try to rape you again, did I?”

“Truth?”

“Painful.” I need to know, whether I like it or not.

“No, you didn’t.”

Shit. “I’m so sorry, Larson.”

This makes him laugh. “What for?”

“For whatever attack you had to protect yourself from.” I’m not an idiot. He lies to spare my feelings, which I love, but I don’t need that right now. “You’re an oxymoron, Larson. I know you.” I feel so embarrassed. Especially now that he’s staring at me. Smiling. And in amazement. “What?”

“This is gonna sound so weird—”

“Nothing new from you.”

He’s standing in front of me now. “I want to kiss you so bad.” My breath suddenly hitches, and I freeze.

“Larson—”

“It’s been so long since I’ve kissed you, and it’s killing me. Can I kiss you?”

I shiver at his words. “I’m not sure what to say to that,” I whisper.

“Yeswould be the ideal answer,” he jokes.

“Jake, that’s a weird question,” I whisper. Where I am predictable, Jake proves to be unpredictable.

“I told you it was gonna be weird, doll face.”

“I don’t think we should. We just decided to date last night—”

“But you kissed me last night. I want arealkiss, babe.”

I freeze and cock an eyebrow. “I did what?” He gives me a long stare before smiling sheepishly.

He gives me a long stare before smiling sheepishly. “I wasn’t gonna say anything, but in your sleep...you devoured my face. For lack of better wording,” he says, chuckling to himself. Of course I did.

“I’m so sorry, Jake.” I really need to stop assaulting him like this.
