“No problem. And...thank you again.” I look back up at her, and she has an unreadable expression.

“It was no problem.” There’s a heated exchange of stares before she finally speaks again.

“Well, I need to get going. I have some training to do.”Training. She turns to leave, but I’m not ready for her to go yet.

“You play something?” She turns back to me and tucks a strand behind her ear. My eyes follow the motion.

“I run track & field.” Of course she does. All those squats...

“Sprinter?”

“How’d you know?”

“You have a nice ass.” She seems stunned, and now I look like a pervert. As I silently curse myself for not thinking before speaking, she notices and recovers.

“It’s okay, Jake. Thank you. Your abs aren’t too shabby.” I smile at her innocent attempt to flirt.

“Well, as long as they’re not too shabby...” She laughs, and it’s like music to my ears. Even her laugh is beautiful.

“Well, I should get going. Thank you for...being you.” She’s so awkward; it’s adorable.

“No problem, Leia.”Leia.Rolls off the fucking tongue. The hottest name I’ve heard since I’ve been living. And the view that I get as she walks back to her car is just the icing on the cake.

Turns out the bubbly track girls from the beach are staying on campus over the summer. Watching them bring a crowd in a fucking college cafeteria proves they’re magnets. Literally. Random basketball players and other dudes pack their table, trying to pick one of them up. Good luck with that. I don’t think any of those girls are in our league here at Rubenstein.

“How did we miss those girls this entire summer?” Hunter asks. I was thinking the same thing. We’ve been staying on campus since May. Howdidwe miss them?

“You spend too much time at the bars, Hunter. What do you think?” Brock asks.

Hunter gives him a look that would make most guys burst into flames. Brock simply shrugs and eats his banana.

I don’t really care for their conversation, though. My gaze zeroes in on the beauty I met yesterday.Leia. Man, it gets me going just thinking her name. She’s laughing with the girls as one of the basketball dudes starts talking to her. She’s beautiful....so fucking radiant....radiant? When the hell do I say—much less, think—things likethat?

“Jake? You back from your daydreaming?” Hunter’s voice breaks into my thoughts. Clearing my throat, I pop a piece of broccoli in my mouth and look at the guys. Why the hell are they so enamored with me?Why areyouso enamored with Leia?

“Do you guys want something?”

“No, but we can tell you want that girl.”

“For the last time, I was admiring her body. That doesn’t mean I want to marry her.” I glance over at the table one more time. I watch as she takes off her sweatshirt, revealing a low-cut sports bra. Clearing my throat, I quickly look away.

“Great. So that means I can ask her out?”

I shoot a glare at Brock, who’s sporting an amused grin. I just roll my eyes and get up to throw my food away. A day with these guys is like babysitting four-year-olds.

I can’t stop thinking about her, though. How she felt under me. How she didn’t...chase after King Larson. I’ve never experienced that shit before. Shaking my head from this mess, I walk back to the table and am shocked to find her there, handing a flyer to Hunter. My heart begins thrumming with a weird nervousness. When she sees me walk up, her eyes brighten, and she holds out a flyer to me.

“What’s this?”

“The track girls and I are throwing a party this Friday. It’s to celebrate the end of summer and, you know, hang out with people,” she says, shrugging. She’s so adorable. My eyes scale down her body again before looking back into her bright eyes.

“Who’s all going to this party?”

“Well, your guys say they are. And some of the basketball guys said they’re interested in some summer fun.”

My eyes find said-basketball guys behind her at their table.

“Will you be there?”
