“You are. In more ways than one.” I can’t help but skim the gorgeous body that is Leia. Her skin is so clear, and my eyes are on her perfect lips. She’s a beautiful girl with such unique features. High cheekbones, cat-like eyes, a beauty mark above her lip. Her hair is jet-black, and she has a large, beautiful smile.

“Not sure if I could ask what you mean by that.”

“You probably don’t wanna know.”

She looks at me for a long period of time. As if she sees through me.

“How old are you?” she asks in a dubious tone.

“Twenty.” I flinch as I say it. This will definitely be our downfall.

She breathes a sigh before fixing her messy bun.

“Should I be here with you, then?”

I’m not so sure, doll. I can already feel my face heating. I think she can tell too.

Clearing my throat, I try to change the subject. “When’s your birthday?”

“I turn seventeen November 8.”

I let out a sigh of relief. That’s only a few months from now. What does it matter, dude? She’s still under eighteen.

“How often do you get stared at? From other guys?”

She has a surprised look. “I don’t know, never noticed.”

I cock an eyebrow. “Figures...”

“I did notice you staring at me, however. At the beach.” I freeze and look into her smiling eyes. “One of my friends said, ‘One of those really hot guys was staring at you.’ I told her that it couldn’t be true. She said, ‘He’s the hottest one, too. He was checking you out.’ When I turned around, sure enough, you were.”

I only swallow. “Look, I’m sorry...”

“It’s okay, I’ve been told many times I have a ‘nice body.’” She laughs nervously at that. “Whatever that means. I’m just an athlete.”

“You have arockin’body, actually. I’m sorry if it made you feel weird. I had no idea you were sixteen, until I sort of heard your friend ask you about your birthday plans.” My face heats again as I admit I was eavesdropping. But she doesn’t seem to care about that.

“So you’re not attracted to me now that you’ve learned I’m sixteen?” She means it as a joke, but I can sense the curiosity behind it.

“I never said I’m not attracted to you. I just can’t have you,” I retort. She looks at me with confusion and gives me a small smile moments later.

“Great to know.”

I frown. What does that mean? I’m about to ask her when someone walks up to our table.Nick.

“Leia.”

“Hey, Nick.” Her signature confusion is back as she looks between me and him. Why is he here?

“You ready to go?” What? We just got here.

“Uh, yeah, I guess.” She looks at me with an apologetic look.

“Did you text him you’d be here?”

“Yeah, I told him I was going to lunch with a friend at Angie’s. But...I didn’t expect him to show up.” We haven’t even eaten yet. Why did she tell him that? And why is he here picking her up?

“Yeah, well, when she said Jake Larson took her to lunch, it seemed like a call for help.”One good punch.
