JAKE

There she is. She’s beautiful in her purple dress that hugs her in the right places.

A little too warm for this cold climate, though. Fuck, I’m not supposed to admire her body. I’m mad at her. What’s more, I’m broken up with her. She’s looking at me with those brown eyes.

“Hiding out?”

“Why did you follow me to the bathroom?” She has a freaked-out look on her face. I don’t blame her. I’m acting like a crazy person right now. I’ve not seen her in two weeks, and this is how I greet her.

“Nice to see you too, doll. But the better question is, why are you on a date?” Withhim.

She gives me a look of confusion. “Because I want to...?”

That angers me more than it should’ve. She shouldn’t want him. He cheated on her. The fucking bastardcheatedon her.

“Allie...we broke up less than a month ago. I didn’t think you were gonna date so soon.” I’m being a selfish bastard. I shouldn’t be giving her a borderline ultimatum about dating.

Her expression is of bewilderment at my comment. Shit. It came out completely wrong, and I didn’t mean for it to.

“Jake, we’re not going this route right now.” She already looks done with this conversation. “You made out with two girls in front of me in a nightclub in Slovakia. So clearly, the ‘not screwing other people’ thing didn’t apply to just me.”

I flinch at that memory. Fuck, I forgot I threw that in her face in Europe. Before I can even address that, my mind is stuck on something else she said. “Wait...are youscrewingthat punk?”

It’s her turn to flinch. “I don’t think my sex life is any of your business, Larson.”

She needs to be careful with what she throws at me. I inch toward her as she backs up against the counter.

“I claimed you, Allie. I think it’s more my business than you think,” I whisper to her. She swallows as she holds my gaze. Something’s changed in her eyes, and I like it. “Tell me he hasn’t been inside you since me, babe.” I need that affirmation.

She stares for a second before she tries to get around me. But I’m too fast for her. “Can you move?” Her voice shakes. I’ve gotten to her.

I’m such a fucking idiot for letting this girl go. I haven’t even known her long, but I’m already too attached to her. No matter how many times I try to walk away from her, she continues to draw me back.

“Why are you mad at me?” It’s a stupid question, but I’m out of my element. My hands are on her hips, and it feels like home again.

She doesn’t seem to notice because she sighs and rolls her eyes before giving me an answer. “I’m not mad, Jake. I’m just done.”

The finality in that worries me. I try to look into her eyes, but she’s trying to avoid eye contact.

“The hell you mean you’re done?” I didn’t mean for it to sound as aggressive as it came out, but I’m losing her.

As if you haven’t already.

It’s not as easy as it seems to let her go. She finally notices my hands on her hips as she reaches around and pushes them off. The action is the equivalent of a blow to my jaw.

“I’m not the type of girl to pursue a friends-with-benefits relationship.”

That catches me off guard.Friends-with-benefits? Where the fuck did she get that from? I might’ve brought it up in Europe in a fit of eagerness to keep her, but I’m not that fucking stupid to propose it again. “Allie...”

“I’m leaving.”

She opens the door to leave. Fuck that. I shut the door and grab her around the waist. She’s not leaving just yet. Her back is to my chest, and my lips have somehow made it to her neck. I gently kiss it. Fuck, she smells good. “If you leave me again, I’ll cry.”

“You’re such a drama queen.” She tries to brush it off, but I’m still getting to her. Her breath quickens in excitement.

“It’s actually King Larson, babe.” And King Larson doesn’t lose. He might’ve had a down trip, but he will never lose again.

“You know what I mean.”
