CHAPTERTWENTY-TWO

RIFF

“Ihear you’ve got strippers,” Uno shouts over the music playing around us.

We’re at a dance club, nothing like I’ve ever seen, but considering we’re on the outskirts of the Red River in Shreveport where all of the casinos are located, I’m not necessarily surprised by the club or the girls around us.

The MC owns a great little dance club.

There are no strippers, but the women dancing in the cages may as well be strippers. They’re wearing just enough to cover their nipples and clits only. It’s pretty fucking hot and I can’t deny the women are sexy as fuck, but I find myself longing for my own woman.

I didn’t think that was possible, to only want a single woman with so much naked flesh around me, but I do. There is something special about Tanner, something that I can’t shake, that I can’t forget. That I can’t deny.

The way that I left things, it was wrong. If something happens to me with this other club, during this war or whatever the fuck you want to call it, I’ll never forgive myself, not even in death. I have to survive this and do right by my woman.

Do right by my baby.

Frogger chats to Uno while I look around, nursing the beer that the practically naked waitress brings me. Taking my phone out of my pocket, I start to send Tanner a text, then realize that I don’t have her fucking number, so I send one to Ironfist instead.

SHE GOOD?

IRONFIST: WENT TO THE GROCERY STORE. HAVEN’T SEEN HER BACK YET.

FUCK.

IRONFIST: YOU DON’T THINK SHE’D RUN?

DON’T THINK SO. BUT DON’T KNOW.

It’s true too. I don’t fucking know. I’ve only really been around her for a couple of days. The reality of that is like a jolt to my entire body. I have only been around her in total, a few days. Maybe only two total. I’m too lazy to actually add up the hours, but fuck me. I know practically nothing about her, and she knows absolutely nothing about me.

TEXT ME WHEN SHE GETS IN. GIVE HER MY NUMBER AND HAVE HER TEXT ME.

IRONFIST: WILL DO.

Shoving my phone back into my pocket, I take a moment to look around. The women are plentiful, the place is thriving, and I wonder why in the fuck this club even needed us. They have the means to make their way.

“Why did you really want to patch over with us?” I ask.

Most of the clubs that we took on as our own were dying. They were not going to last another year on their own. But this one? This nightclub is fucking thriving. So, I’m a bit concerned as to why the fuck they even needed to join us.

Uno’s gaze finds mine, he holds my attention, then he clears his throat before he speaks. “This is the only part of our club that hasn’t been demolished. The men aren’t unified, well the old ones aren’t. They’re all fucked up, and the new ones are fucking clueless.”

“So this isn’t a financial thing? This is a club cohesiveness and pride thing?”

“Hard to be cohesive and proud when the neighboring club continues to start shit, cause shit, and now has threatened to bomb and actually did kidnap.”

Nodding my head, I can’t help but agree with him. He’s not fucking wrong. “Well, the first thing we need to do is get the president’s daughter back. The second thing we do is take out the threat, and then we work on the rest.”

“How?” he asks. “How do we work on the rest?”

“Out with the old, in with the new. This club should not be struggling in any aspect at all whatsoever. Not with this place that’s able to earn a decent income.”

My words hold plenty of meaning and he can interpret them however he likes. He needs to know how he wants to proceed, and it can’t be a simple order from me, it has to come from within, from them. We already demanded they take care of one of their problems, the rest must be done by them.

TANNER

The grocery store ismyplace, along with the kitchen. But at the store, I could spend hours just walking around and looking at everything. I love to read the labels, love to find new things to try and experiment with while I cook.
