Alessa was coming apart. That table strike was a painful reminder of the last time her family was in the same room with the St. Clair’s. Her heart ached. Her belly tightened. She jumped so high out of her seat in response to Zander’s strike to the table that she nearly toppled it over.

“Tell him, Gianna,” Alessa pleaded. “Tell him whatever you know.”

“Shut up, Alessa,” Gianna snapped.

“I won’t shut up, Gianna,” Alessa clapped back. “I don’t want to die here today for something I have nothing to do with.”

Zander lifted up and gave the signal to the security team. Gianna watched as her enemies penetrated the room even more.

“Oh, so you want to play Betty badass?” Zander questioned as he moved around Gianna’s chair. “Your brother did the same thing.”

“On the table,” Nicholas instructed, he and Zander working in coordination to extract the information they needed.

The guards moved with haste, lifting Alessa from the chair. She reached for Gianna, scared, crying out for her sister to save her. Before Gianna could even respond, Alessa was pinned down on the dining room table, a guard holding each arm and each leg. Gianna’s soul pricked as tears rolled down her sister’s cheeks. She could see the fear in Alessa’s eyes as she tried to fight, realizing she couldn’t.

Isaac held out a nine-millimeter Glock that Zander took from him before mounting the table. He positioned himself between Alessa’s opened pinned legs and chambered a round.

“No, don’t,” Gianna pleaded. When Gianna jumped to her feet, she was instantly restrained. She couldn’t fight against the strength of the men that held her, but that didn’t mean Gianna didn’t try.

The St. Laurent brothers were wide-eyed, but they knew instinctively not to interrupt. This may not have been their modus operandi, but if it got them to Zsanine, they wouldn’t interject.

“Where is Zsanine?” The Don asked. His voice was so unsettling. With everything that was going on, Alessa crying, sometimes screaming, Gianna fighting, pleading on her sister’s behalf, Nicholas’ voice was steady, level, and clear.

Gianna was so frustrated she started to cry. She still pulled against the men that held her even though her effort was inconsequential.

“Gianna, please,” Alessa begged, her voice jagged from all the crying she was doing. “Please, just tell them.”

“Open your mouth,” Zander instructed.

Alessa’s attention moved from her sister to her captor. “What?” She uttered barely above a whisper.

“Open your fuckin’ mouth,” Zander said, pushing the muzzle of the gun closer. “If your sister won’t talk, then she will have one less sister.”

“No, please,” Alessa begged. Her pleading eyes and her cringe-worthy voice were of no significance to Zander. “Gian-“

When her mouth opened to call out for her sister, Zander shoved the gun in.

Gianna’s eyes widened, as did Alessa’s. She couldn’t doubt what Zander said. He’d killed a family member before. There was no guarantee if she told that the St. Clair’s would let them live. She also had to consider that if she told, her other sisters wouldn’t live either. She was in a mental and emotional quandary, but her mental anguish was of no concern to the men in the room.

“Where is Zsanine?” Nicholas leveled the question again.

Gianna voiced her concerns aloud at the risk of infuriating those that threatened her family. She had to know. Before she gave them the information they demanded, Gianna wanted some guarantees.

“How do I know you won’t kill us anyway after I tell you what you want to know? How do I know you won’t kill my sisters?”

“You don’t,” Nicholas coolly replied. “You don’t deserve any guarantees, or do you think you’re entitled to some?”

Alessa moaned under the pressure of the gun against the back of her throat. It was hard to breathe when her chest heaved from the crying.

“No, I don’t,” Gianna quietly replied, tears staining her tanned cheeks. “But I am asking, begging you, please, if I tell you where she is, you’ll let us live.”

“I have no desire to take your life,” Nicholas explained. “But I am a patient man. My brother is not. Some of the other men that currently surround you are not. You will tell us what we need to know, and you’ll live. But please understand this, if a single hair on Zsanine’s head is out of place, if she’s been harmed in any way because you’re stalling,” Nicholas continued.

“Your family will pay, again,” Zander finished Nicholas’ thought, Zander’s words seething between clenched teeth.

Gianna broke. She couldn’t hold back the tears anymore. She couldn’t fight all of them. She couldn’t do it.

For the first time, Nicholas advanced in her direction. He picked up the phone that had been sitting nearest to Gianna.
