Before Bella could think another thought, Jessica had grabbed her from the chair and slammed her on the dining room table. Her sisters protested, but their protestations fell on deaf ears. Jessica climbed onto the table while still holding Bella in place.

“No! Stop!” Alessa screamed.

Bianca tried to formulate a protest, but tears spilled from her pale lids, and nothing came from her mouth.

Gianna fumed. She was angry that she was completely powerless to do anything about what was happening.

Jessica looked up briefly and gave a single nod. Her team went into action, restraining each one of the sisters like Bella had restrained Zsanine. Their faces weren’t covered, though. Jessica wanted to make sure they saw everything.

“You fucked with the wrong one, bitch,” she uttered, her fist coming in contact with Bella’s face the first time. Bella’s hands went up to cover her face, but that was no deterrent. Jessica lived for a good fight. She used her knees to pin Bella’s arms to her side. She didn’t care about the screaming and the flailing Bella was doing. She wasn’t going anywhere, and neither were her sisters.

Jessica struck again, three solid blows to the face in quick succession. Blood spewed from Bella’s thin lips and augmented nose, and she cried out in pain. But that hurt too because her lip was busted. That only fueled Jessica. She pounded the woman she had pinned, unleashing the fury Zander shared with her about how they’d humiliated Zsanine. Bella could no longer see through her blackened eyes, too swollen for any more tears to fall. She could no longer protest, her missing teeth making it difficult to articulate. Jessica didn’t care that Bella choked on her own blood.

Jessica grabbed Bella by the shirt and lifted her up from the table.

“You fucked with Zsanine.”

Bella’s head bobbled. She couldn’t hold it up. Jessica shook her hard, rattling around Bella’s miniscule brain in her head.

“Now you’ve been fucked up.”

Jessica held on to Bella with one hand and scooted off the table. She dragged Bella with her, her body striking hard on the floor, breaking bones.

“Tie this one up, too,” Jessica instructed.

The security team followed instructions, tying Bella to a chair facing her sisters.

Jessica leaned over Bella in the chair.

“You gagged Zsanine so she couldn’t scream. I want your sisters to hear yours.”

And then they were gone. As quietly as the Elite team entered, they disappeared. The Di’Carlo women were still too scared to speak. They hadn’t heard them enter, and they weren’t sure the intruders had exited. The only thing that could be heard were quiet sobs Alessa and Bianca couldn’t constrain. Maybe that was all that was going to happen. Maybe that was it. Some of them dared to be hopeful. Gianna was one. She tried to get out of the restraints, fighting against the ropes that held her bound. If she could get loose, then she could help her sisters.

Then something rancid infiltrated her nostrils. Gianna lifted her nose in the air and sniffed again.

“Do you smell that?”

They all did. They all smelled it, and then they saw the evidence of what they smelled. The dining room they inhabited was infiltrated with smoke. The smoke was thick and choking. All their eyes widened one after the other even as they struggled to breathe as flames followed, moving through the entrance, blazing everything that surrounded them, dancing flames that had no respect of person.

“Oh no,” Bianca cried. “Oh no, no, no, no, no. Gianna?”

She wanted to help her sister, she did. But Gianna couldn’t. She couldn’t get out of the stranglehold the ropes had her in.

It got harder to see, but it wasn’t hard to hear the cries and screams that erupted as the flames drew closer.

“Help! Help!” Alessa screamed as the flickering flames licked at her ankles.

And then there were cries of anguish as the floor disappeared under the reddish-orange blaze that burned. There was no escape. There was no way out.

“I’m sorry! I’m sorry,” Bella screamed until she couldn’t.

Jessica watched from the driveway as the Di’Carlo mansion erupted into flames. She watched to ensure nothing survived. Only then did she make the call.

“It’s done.”
