“Oh, never mind.”

I did not know if it was the right time to tell her the entire truth.

I woke up in the warmth of my bed, my eyes fluttered open as the empty space beside me began to register. My chest tightened and I jumped out of bed like the smoke alarm was blaring.

“Gia?” I called over and over searching.

With each step my body vibrated faster and faster with worry.

I raced downstairs in my underwear.

When I got to the living room, Juanita turned.

“Morning sir,” she coughed in embarrassment and averted her eyes.

I looked down to see my morning bulge ready for action.

“Gia, have you seen her?”

She shook her head then returned to her task.

“Shit!” I muttered, racing outside to find Orson or Drummer.

Drummer sauntered over to me.

“Looks like someone needs some help,” he said looking at my crotch chuckling.

“Shut up. Where is she? Where did she go?” I asked suddenly feeling anger towards him because he could not do his only job, protect her.

“I thought she was with you, but clearly she isn’t,” he said again with sideways glance at my groin. “I never saw her come out of the house.”

Orson walked up just then.

“Uh, what’s the problem, sir?” his cheeks turning red.

“If you both want to keep your jobs, you better look for her and stop looking at my cock!” I thundered.

I snatched the keys out of Drummer’s hand and marched towards the car. Juanita was waddling towards me with a robe stretched in front of her. For fuck’s sake. I put my arms in it, then stepped into the vehicle and slammed the door shut.

Where the hell did she go? How could she just disappear like that? I wondered as I stepped on the gas. Where was I going to start?

This was all happening again, for a second time. I would not lose her again.

The scenes from yesterday played in my mind. It seemed like she was finally starting to trust me. Our time before dinner felt like she needed me as much as I needed her. I promised myself to protect her and yet I failed again. I slammed my palm against the steering wheel in frustration.

Was she taken by them again? Did they finally find her? Did she panic after our conversation and run off? I could feel a headache coming on. I pinched the bridge of my nose and inhaled deeply willing my brain to relax.

My hunting skills were rusty, but I could feel them clawing to the surface.

Who did she know in Oswego?

Where would The Wonder Project take her?

How long had she been gone?

I tried to dial her number, but there was no answer.
