“But Julian…”

“Enough Marissa. You’ve shown me who you really are, and I’ve been blind to it all these years.”

I opened the door and walked out leaving her staring at my back speechless.

As I neared my car, my phone vibrated in my pocket, it was Orson.

“The surgery is finished and was a success. She is still sleeping. I did what you asked. He’s at the warehouse by the river.”

“Thanks Orson. I am on my way.”

I drove to the other side of town as the sun was beginning to rise and paint the sky with purple and orange. The beauty soothed my soul as I sped towards the place where my answers awaited.

As I pulled up to the warehouse, one of my men met me and said he was in one of the offices. I took the stairs two at a time up to the second floor. I walked in and Dylan shot to his feet.

“What is the meaning of this?!” He yelled. “What the hell are you trying to do Julian?”

“Sit down Dylan,” I sighed.

I pulled up a chair and sat opposite of where he had been sitting.

“Sit,” I gestured towards his chair.

He hesitated then sat down.

“This is not right Julian!”

“You want to talk about what’s right? That’s rich. Let me be clear,” I tapped the desk to my left and the man guarding Dylan pulled out a gun, set it on the desk, then stepped back. I nodded and Dylan’s eyes got wide. “Are we clear?”

“Y…yes.”

“Okay, let’s continue. Your cooperation is essential Dylan. I can make you disappear. You can yell, you can try to run…You’re in my building and you will answer my questions. Do you understand?”

“I told you all I know. If you think all of this will get you somewhere, you’re wrong. You think I’m the enemy? You house the bigger enemy.”

“Rylie. You know Rylie, don’t you? You remember my wife, the woman who was pregnant with my child?”

I balled my hands into fists to keep from reaching over and slamming his face into the concrete floor. I unclenched then clenched my fists again.

“Yea, you remember her you sick fuck. Did you know she was taken for your ridiculous project?”

Dylan’s face went pale while he cleared his throat.

I grabbed the gun and pointed it at him.

“She didn’t just disappear; she was stolen from me.”

“I’m so sorry Julian,” his voice quivered.

“Sorry? You better start telling me all you know about those guys or you won’t be leaving this building alive. You know me Dylan, I don’t ever bluff.”

The monster that was created all those years ago in that bunker was finally unleashed. There was no turning back.

“You know what? You think you know what is best for everyone Julian. You see something, and then you take it.”

“Excuse me?”

“You are a selfish bastard! In our early years as businessmen, you took everything, every deal, every client, every patent. You speak…”
