Warm breath tickled his bare skin as gentle curves pressed into his. And then her leg slid over his, her thigh settling on his hip in the most provocative way.

Their pelvises pressed together, her body naturally cradling his. His cock thickened and lengthened, tension filling him as he gritted his teeth against the unwanted desire.

The roundness of her backside had been bad enough…

But this.

Her fingers and palm settled over his bicep, the fingers lightly massaging his muscle as her nose swished across his bare skin, burrowing closer into the hollow. “Easton,” she murmured.

The name helped cool the worst of his ardor.

His father had been Easton.

And when he’d taken the title, he’d kept the nickname not as a sign of affection but as a constant reminder of where he came from and what he wished to avoid.

But on her lips…

Asher was his given name. Ash, his mother had called him. Both shorthand for his name and the tone in his blond hair, the name had always suited him.

And in just this moment, he wished Ash had fallen from Lily’s lips. He let out a growl as he realized what he’d just thought. This was exactly what he’d hoped to avoid and why he used the name Easton.

So he was never tempted to forget.

Why, after only a day, had Lily managed to breech that particular wall he’d erected?

Likely, it was because of the rescue.

He felt more bonded to her. Her protector…

He wrapped an arm about her, his palm flat against her stomach as she slowly breathed in and out.

“Lily,” he whispered into her ear. “Sleep well and dream of beautiful things, because you deserve them.”

And then he closed his eyes too.

His sleep was light though fitful enough, and he woke in the dark. He knew they’d need to leave well before the farmer rose and made his way outside.

But if anything, Lily had sunk deeper into their embrace. He’d rolled onto his back at some point, and she’d moved with him, her body half draped across his.

He didn’t wish to get up. This intimate embrace was too damned nice.

But discovery now would defeat the purpose of sleeping in the barn. With that in mind, he untangled himself from the sweet beauty snuggling with him and rose, stretching his back.

“Already?” She sighed from her spot on the blankets. “I was having the loveliest dream.”

That made him smile. “About what?”

She sat up, stretching too. “I was by a riverbank with my feet dangling in. Flowers were all about us and the water was cool even as the air—”

“Us? Who was with you?”

She sucked in a breath. “I don’t remember.”

His brows lifted and a little pleasure filled his chest as he drew in a breath. “You were dreaming of me, weren’t you?”

She looked away, down to the side, but didn’t answer.

He didn’t know why he’d pushed. He supposed the idea that he’d had an impact on her too made him feel better. “Would you fold the blankets while I saddle the horse?”
