“Did something else happen?”

“I don’t know what you’re suggesting, Luca.”

“Is there something going on between the two of you?”

I grind my teeth.

“That’s a yes,” Luca states. “So, what? You guys had a fight?”

“Something like that.”

“What did you fight about?”

“It wasn’t exactly a fight,” I reply.

“So, what was it?”

“We kissed.”

Luca whistles through his teeth. “That’s the total opposite of a fight, man. Unless you’re a terrible kisser, but I doubt that. I’ve seen you in action too many times.”

I don’t answer.

“Did she not want it?” He asks, arching an eyebrow that says he’d find that hard to believe.

“She started it.”

“Ok. Look, I’m not following. Was there a fight or not?”

I push my back off the wall and lean my shoulder against it, facing him. “We went too far…”

Luca’s eyebrows shoot up.

“Notthatfar, but too far for a client and her bodyguard, ok?”

“You’re not going to be her bodyguard forever, and it’s clear she really likes you… What happened?”

“I stopped it.”

“And she didn’t want you to stop?”

I shake my head. “No.”

“Did you want to stop?”

“No,” I reply, without needing to put thought into it. “I haven’t wanted anything so bad in… forever.”

“Have you talked to her about it?”

“No,” I sigh. “She won’t. She’s just kind of shut me out.”

“Give her time. She’s probably embarrassed.”

I narrow my eyes at him. “You know, for someone so young yourself, you’re actually pretty seasoned.”

“Generously,” he winks. “But, seriously, is that it? She’s young. You’re worried about the age gap between the two of you?”

My back thuds against the wall again and I rub my hands over my face. “That’s one of many reasons why this would never work.”
