“What else is there? You’re a bit older and you’re her bodyguard? Well, here’s a revelation: girls like older men, and it’s not like you’re old enough to have conceived her.”

I visibly cringe. “But I am, Luca. And it’s not just that. I don’t want to hurt her. I’ve never had a relationship where there hasn’t been, you know, a third party.”

“You’ve never been monogamous?”

“No, I have been, but the woman is usually married. You know that.”

“So, that doesn’t mean you can’t have a relationship with someone who’s single.”

I sigh and close my eyes. “But, there’s the thing. I don’t know if I can.”

“There’s only one way to find out.”

I shake my head. “Aurelia is too good to be a fucking guinea pig. I’m not testing any theories on her. She deserves better than that.”

Luca goes to object, but doesn’t get a chance, as Aurelia’s door opens and the object of our discussion stands in the frame. I don’t know if it’s just me but her shorts seem shorter, her tank tighter, her lips darker, her heels higher. She notices my eyes popping out of my head and shoots me a glare that is way, way sexier than she intends it to be. She walks straight past, while Luca and I trail closely behind. She sings a few bars of the opening song, warming up her vocal cords. It’s beautiful, and disarming, as ever. But all I can hear is the sound of her cry as she came against my fingers.
