CHAPTERELEVEN

Kate

The next morning, I wake warm and rested, but Damon is nowhere to be found. The only sign that I hadn’t dreamt up the entire night before was the note he left on his pillow with his cell number and a simple message.

I’ll be gone golfing with the guys today. Brandi will meet you downstairs at ten. Stay out of trouble.

Damon

I smirk, knowing full well if Brandi is involved, there will be nothing but trouble.

It’s five past ten, and while I wait in the lobby for her to grab our coffee orders from the café, I think about the man I slept beside last night.

When Damon came to the room all disheveled from working late, I had to force myself not to imagine him the way I had in the bath. I haven’t had a proper wash since leaving the Grand Topican, and sinking into the garden tub in Damon’s bathroom wasorgasmic.

I started visualizing him opening the bathroom door and getting an eyeful of my exploring hands. I even contemplated touching myself to relieve some tension, but when I heard him unlock the hotel room door, I chickened out.

Thad would be appalled if I ever mentioned something as kinky as watching each other pleasure ourselves. Our sex life always lacked spontaneity. No matter how often I’d told him I wanted to spice it up, he never gave me much effort, leaving me unsatisfied and disappointed.

My stomach drops. I really should at least give my mother and him a reason why I haven’t returned their messages, but I need to bide some time.

I send a text letting them know my flight was delayed due to an incoming hurricane and that I’ll be stuck on the island for a few more days, and then I switch over to an unread message from Coraline.

Helloooo! I haven’t heard from you. Blink twice if you’re alive.

Smiling, I message her back.

*blink, blink* Sorry. I ran into some issues…

She fires back a quick,Oh?

I give her the short version, confirming that I have indeed been cut off, lost my lodging due to electrical issues, and now staying with a stranger.

YOU’RE WHAT?She follows up quickly with,Wait… Is he hot?

Do I tell her that Damon is fine with a capitolF?

I decide to leave it at,Maybe

Hahaha. You’re so screwed.

“There you are!” Brandi beams, narrowly avoiding the eye roll I give Coraline’s message. She shoves her hand out. “I grabbed your cappuccino.”

Sliding my phone into the back pocket of my shorts, I take the life-giving liquid from her grasp.

According to Brandi, dress shopping is on the agenda for the morning. The dinner Damon is escorting me to will be on a yacht, and I’ve been informed that we’re to arrive in style.

“We’ve got an appointment at a boutique not far from here,” she says once we break through the revolving glass doors and out into the blazing island sun.

A wave of trepidation washes over me when I think about the price tag on the kind of dress I’m going to need.

“What’s wrong?”

I quickly remove the fingertip I was nibbling from between my teeth.

We stop at a crosswalk, watching a group of tourists on bicycles zoom by.

Brandi’s hand wraps around my forearm as she gives a gentle squeeze. “Kate?”
