The pressure of his hand around hers eased just a little. “Even the part where we met?”

She tightened her grip on his hand instead, making up for what he couldn’t seem to give her right now. She didn’t blame him. The fact he even spoke to her at all was a miracle.

Besides, she’d had a desire to reach for him earlier. Now she had that, she wanted him to know, as temporary as his presence had been in her life, he’d made a huge difference. “I’d only erase the part where we got hurt. You make up my best memories, Blaine. I would never give those up.”

Tight bands constricted around her ribcage, and his gaze danced over her face, the lines between his brows reappearing. Had she said too much? Heck, what she revealed surprised her too.

Despite the distance and the years, he’d lived on in her heart. No matter how many times she tried to compress the memory until it almost didn’t exist. But almost wasn’t enough. What they’d shared. Those brief months. They’d haunted her. Especially at her loneliest moments.

Now that she’d given him a glimpse of that truth, did he feel the same? Or had she just handed him a chance for revenge? His golden opportunity to hurt her back.
