I lift my arms to him, but he turns me, walking me to the door. “I’ll see you tomorrow, Cat.”

“But…” The door slams in my face, literally touching the very tip of my nose. “Well how do you like them rotten tomatoes.” Rubbing the soreness away, I turn down the hall, stopping dead in my tracks when Tony steps out of Julie’s room. Our eyes lock, and in a pointless attempt to go unseen, he tries to get back into her room. But it’s locked.

Giving up, he faces the door, too ashamed to turn my way.

“Well, well, well,” I say, walking slyly up to him. “No wonder Jules was so willing to sweep my little fling under the carpet by ‘allowing relationships.’ I looked it up, you know. In our policy book. It’s definitely against the rules.”

Tony turns to me with imploring eyes. “Look, kitten, you gotta keep this one to yourself. This was the first time.”

“Liar.”

“Okay, the first time in Key West,” Tony confesses. “I don’t want her to get into trouble. She’s really given me a hard time about that rule. But we are so good together.”

“Good for you! You finally got through to her.”

“So, does that mean you’ll keep quiet? I’ll do whatever you need. If you want, we can trade rooms. I’ll stay here and you can stay with Dean. It’ll be my birthday present to you. That is where you came from, isn’t it?”

My lips pull into a straight line. “Do whatever you need, Tone. You know I’m a cat, not a rat. But Coop just threw me out, so if you need to go back in there, feel free. Though you may want to give him a minute.”

“What happened?”

Sighing, I slap him on the arm. “I guess he really doesn’t like casual sex.”

“And you do?” Tony asks.

“I don’t know what I like anymore. Goodnight, Tone. See you tomorrow.”

“Goodnight, kitten.”
