No! It was too fast. There weren’t enough seconds to last.

He smiled softly into her panicked eyes as if he knew what she was thinking.

“Feed me,” he demanded with mock arrogance.

She knew he was trying to distract her from unhappy thoughts. From the trepidation of what might come.

She played along, for what else was she to do? She didn’t want to waste the precious moments they had together fearing for the future.

She stepped away from his hands and cocked a hip, folding her arms across her chest in a defiant stance.

“Make demands of a Valkyrie at your own risk, earth dragon,” she warned. “I do not take kindly to orders.”

He leaned closer over the wooden bar that separated them, one hand cupping the back of her head, long fingers threading through her hair.

“Feed me, my warrioress,” he growled deeply, mouth brushing over hers.

“I hunger for the sustenance only you can provide.”

As Eir melted in her boots right there and then, a gagging, choking sound came from nearby. She’d forgotten that they had an audience in Ere, and he made his presence known now with exaggerated disgust.

“Get a room, you two,” he tossed behind him as he walked away toward the longhouse, Sorin cutting across the cold ground in long strides to join him.

“That was way too much innuendo for my innocent ears.”

Eir and Kai smiled into each other’s eyes at that. Hand in hand, they headed to the longhouse as well to join their friends and the rest of the villagers at supper.

That night, they satisfied a different kind of hunger with their bodies, hearts and souls. Eir fell asleep wrapped around Kai, holding him deep inside.

She would do anything for this man, was her last conscious thought.

Including tearing down the foundations of Asgard herself to save him.

Day Two, After: Bedazzled.

“Here, my love,” Ere said, handing Sorin a bright red apple.

“I saved the biggest and juiciest for you.”

Sorin took the gift with silent thanks, his eyes warm and golden.

Ere loved looking into his eyes. The most beautiful, light-filled lava pools. He loved the simmering heat of contentment. The conflagration of desire. And the volcanic starbursts of all-consuming love.

He would never tire of roasting in those embracing flames.

Sorin and Kai were resting a bit from the afternoon’s labors. Together with the villagers, they’d dug a deep, wide trench along the northside of the settlement over the past few days.

They also cut down trees from the forest toward the west and shaped the tops of them into sharp points, creating giant spikes that they notched within the trench. The branches they whittled down and filled the gap.

When the time came, they would shoot fire arrows into the trench and erect a wall of spearing flames.

Ere watched the Valkyrie bring water and food to Kai some distance away just as he did for Sorin.

Eir couldn’t take her eyes off the warrior. She couldn’t help touching him either, though she seemed conflicted about the desire. Often, she’d reach out to dust his shoulder or wipe his chest, only to retract her hand guiltily afterwards.

“What a strange woman,” Ere remarked, keeping his eyes on the pair as he crunched into his own apple, merely one of average size but still refreshingly tart and sweet.
