That’s because youare, my Sai,she stated emphatically in his mind.

My love. My treasure.

My beautiful Pale Prince.

My dream come true.

But all dreams must end, mustn’t they?

For, just as she thought those words, a blinding flash surrounded them, making Sai squeeze his eyes shut against the light.

When he opened them once more, he was no longer in Scotland, much less the Victorian era.

He was dressed in silver finery in his human form. And he was standing with Ben and Annie in the center of an opulent palace the likes of which he could never have imagined in his wildest fantasies.

“Well, well,” a disembodied voice intoned.

Just before a white-haired, white-bearded old man materialized out of thin air to stand before them, hands clasped behind his back.

“It looks like you have brought back the Myth, just as you were instructed,” he observed with a slight tip of his head in Ben’s direction without turning his gaze from Sai.

The ageless being looked Sai up and down, his eerie, unfathomable eyes glinting with something like appreciation.

And something else that couldn’t be interpreted.

“Welcome to the Celestial Realm, Pale Prince.”

And that was when it dawned on Sai:

The fairytale had ended. The bubble had burst.

He was finally free, but at what cost?

His Brigid was gone.
