He purred with satisfaction, making her giggle as the vibration from his rumbling tickled her skin.

Brigid had been busy while he was gone to the modern world. She reestablished her reign in the other realm, freeing the prisoners the Master had turned, and pushing their monsters into hiding once more, where they could not encroach upon the world of men.

Through this process, she learned that there was more than one fairy court, as she described them to Sai. She was the Queen of Light and Summer. But there were three other queens at least, and maybe even a couple of kings.

She had not met any of them, but she knew now that they existed. The fairy realm was much more expansive than she ever imagined. And they all had a role to play in maintaining the Balance.

“Perhaps that used to be true, walking only between two realms,” he said thoughtfully, “but I think you have more powers now. Have you really tested yourself?”

She stirred enough to blink open her sleepy eyes a sliver, and gazed into his own.

“I think it isyouwho have the powers. Or perhaps it is the two of us together. You said yourself that dragons possess immeasurable magic. Dragonsaremagic. You are the one who created this scene in my dreams, I have realized. It wasn’t me that dreamed you, but you who entered my dreams.”

“Are you suggesting that I can walk between worlds as well?” he asked, truly intrigued.

She nodded.

“You already have. You came back to me from the modern world, from a far-off place, simply by dreaming of me.”

It was true, Sai reflected. But he assumed that it was a one-way ticket. He’d been transported to the Celestial Realm by the magic of the Jade Emperor, and he returned to where he belonged. He didn’t think he could voluntarily visit Ere and perhaps Kai on his own powers. But…

Perhaps Brigid was right.

“I think we might both have powers we didn’t have before,” she went on.

“Powers we should explore carefully. For, we never know when they might come in handy. But we also wouldn’t want to misuse them and cause more problems than we solve.”

“I want to help my brother,” Sai said, tucking his snout into her halo of frizzy hair.

He found that whenever he felt unsure and vulnerable, it always soothed and strengthened him to breathe in her scent.

“I want to help him too,” she murmured, stroking the bridge of his nose just the way he liked.

“Perhaps we can find a cure for his ailment in the other realm,” she suggested.

“The fae world is full of magic that heals and revives. I can try to find the other queens and kings and consult them. The knowledge must have been passed down through ancient bloodlines, but alas, I am an orphan. I don’t know where to start. I just know that I have the power of healing myself. I can turn the Master’s monsters back to their original forms. Some of them are beyond redemption. But most of them can be saved.”

“You have a special light,” he agreed.

She had savedhim, after all.

“Let’s explore the fairy realm together,” she said with hopeful excitement.

“There is so much I want to show you!”

“We can try to dream our way into the modern world too,” he offered in turn.

“Perhaps that is the answer. Our dreams. I can pull you into my dreams, and you can pull me into yours. Our dreams are the portals to other realms.”

“I think you might be right!” she crowed enthusiastically, wide awake now even while her physical self still slept in the real world.

“When? When can we start? There is so much to do!”

At this, he nuzzled her back down and bunched his muscles a little to hold her still.

“Soon,” he answered.

“Don’t forget, this is our…honey-moon. We must indulge in each other’s honey for an entire moon cycle.”
