She moved to throw it, but instead of letting go, she turned around, walked right up to Kayla and handed her the bouquet.

“Wha—?” Kayla started when Olivia grinned at her and said, “Turn around.”

All of the other women gathered had been ushered aside by the bridesmaids and there was Sebastian, on one knee, a breathtakingly gorgeous ring between his thumb and forefinger.

“Oh my God,” she gasped, the bouquet slipping from her hands and hitting the floor with a soft thud. The entire room had gone silent, all eyes on them.

“Kayla,” he said shakily, taking her hand. “I know without a doubt that I wouldn’t be here today without you. Without your love, without your support, without your friendship. You’re not just my girlfriend. You’re my best friend. You’re my future. You’re my everything, and the past two years have been the best of my life. I love you now, and I’m going to spend the rest of my life loving you. Until you, I was lost, and now because of you, I’ve found a home I could’ve only dreamed about. Will you marry me?”

Tears stung her eyes as joy burst through her like fireworks. “Yes,” she said quietly, nodding her head vehemently to make up for the softness of her reply. “Yes, I’ll marry you.”

He slipped the ring onto her finger and rose to his feet, where he pulled her into his arms and kissed her. Everyone cheered and celebrated, and fresh bottles of champagne started circulating. She pulled back and stared down at the ring on her finger, a stunning pear-shaped diamond with clusters of smaller diamonds around it, making it look almost like a snowflake.

“Do you like it?” he asked, pressing a kiss to her forehead.

“I love it,” she answered honestly. “It’s incredibly beautiful.”

“I chose it because it looks like a snowflake. And snowflakes will always make me think of being snowed in with you in that cabin. I didn’t know it then, but I’d already started to fall in love with you that weekend.”

She smiled softly and pressed her head against his chest, the emotion of the moment almost overwhelming her. She just wanted to live in this moment forever, the moment when all of her doubts about Sebastian and their future were totally obliterated.

“I’m sorry it took me so long,” he murmured against her hair, his hand skating up and down her back. “I just needed to be sure I was good. That I wasn’t going to fuck everything up or drag you down with me.”

She looked up at him, stroking her hand over his stubbled cheek. “You are good, and even if you fuck up, I’m not going anywhere. We’re in this together, no matter what.”

“Let’s see the ring!” said Lauren, who came bustling over with Willa, Felicity, and Madison.

“Sorry, I held her back as long as I could,” said Theo, shooting them a sheepish smile. “Congrats, guys.”

Everyone offered them their congratulations, and Kayla was swept up in a flurry of hugs and kisses and exclamations over her ring. Several minutes had passed when she was finally able to excuse herself to go find Olivia, who was chatting with Lucian and Whitney.

“I think I owe you a huge thank you,” she said. “This is your wedding, and you didn’t have to do that.”

Olivia waved her comment away. “He was going to propose to you the other night, on the roof at the rehearsal dinner. When I heard that that didn’t happen because…things went a little sideways, I felt bad. I don’t mind sharing the spotlight. I don’t need attention when I’ve got everything I need right here. Well, and sleeping at home. Cora was crashing, so the nanny left with her.” Olivia pulled her in for a squeezy hug. “I’m happy it all worked out.”

Kayla blinked slowly, digesting the news that Sebastian had been planning to propose on the roof. How long had he been planning to propose to her while they were here in New York? She decided it didn’t matter. The only thing that mattered now was the future.

She felt as though she were glowing, walking on air as she returned to Sebastian. They spent the rest of the night dancing and eating and talking about what kind of wedding they’d like to have, wrapped up in their own little world. She couldn’t stop looking at the gorgeous ring on her finger. Couldn’t stop imagining what it would be like to be Kayla Prescott.

“What if…” he asked as they danced once again, this time to a Leon Bridges song—the band had packed up a little while ago as the reception wound down. “What if we just snuck off somewhere, like Tahiti, and got married on the beach?” he asked.

Kayla grinned, snuggling into him. “I really like that idea. Just a few close friends and family, small and intimate. Super romantic.”

“And then we can spend two weeks having sex in one of those little tiki huts.”

She laughed. “I like the way you think.”

Just then, Lucian and Olivia reappeared, wearing their leaving outfits. They were headed to the Amalfi Coast in Italy for a week, and it was time for everyone to see them off. The magical night was coming to an end, and Kayla knew it was time to do what she’d been putting off.

It was time to take that pregnancy test.
