With a smile, I hop on the elevator to take me back up to talk to Hudson. As I walk in, everyone turns to look at me. Most of them know about our relationship, and obviously, could hear everything being said inside his office.

“You okay?” Justin approaches my desk.

“I’m fine. Not sure how this is going to go for him, though.” I flick my head to Hudson, who has his head on his desk. “This company is important to him and losing her husband’s business is like, what, twenty to thirty percent of the revenue for the year?”

“No way her husband is going to believe her. He’d be crazy. I’ve got something up my sleeve if it comes to that.” I wink at him and make my way into his office, and shut the door.

“Maybe I should have closed the door. Did everyone hear? I’m fucking embarrassed they had to hear that, and you. What is wrong with her? Black mail? Seriously?” Hudson says, hand running across his forehead.

Let’s hope that this takes care of Lyla and she won’t be showing her face around here anymore. Why should Hudson’s business suffer just because she can’t get laid?

“Don’t worry about it. I don’t think she would actually do it.”

After about twenty minutes, Hudson cancels all his meetings and just goes home for the day. It is completely unlike him, but today hasn’t exactly been the best either. He kisses me goodbye and tells me that he’ll see me later.

When it’s time to leave, I check my phone to see if Tina has messaged me where to meet up with her for a brief shopping trip. I question whether I should even go or head directly home to check on Hudson, but I don’t want her to think I’m just blowing her off.

Me: Where are we meeting?

I wait around for a few minutes before getting a reply.

Tina: The Mall. See you in 10.

I put my car in drive, and head to the one place I hate, the mall. It’s always filled with teenagers wearing barely enough clothing and begging for attention. Not really my scene, but I’ll do it with it for Tina this one time.

Me: Helping your sister pick out an outfit, then I’ll head home, put some laundry in, and come check on you.

The mall is packed, and Tina wants to go to multiple stores to look for an outfit. Honestly, I just want to get home and take off my heels. They aren’t made for standing on my feet all the time.

“What about this? We could get some jewelry, too?” I ask, holding up a nicely detailed gray pencil skirt and purple blouse.

“That’s why I came to you. You wear this stuff every day to work. I’ve never been in a business type setting before. Help me!”

I take the outfit, grab some jewelry, and pumps and ask her to go put it all on. When she comes out, I nod. “This is perfect. Shows you are young but eager. I think you should just get the whole outfit. It looks great on you, too.”

After buying the outfit, we head out to our cars and head home. Hudson is probably waiting for me. Opening his door and heading to the bedroom, I mosey on up to him and he is already asleep.
