Chapter 13

MICHAEL

Monique was frozen in shock. What I’d just proposed was probably the last thing she’d expected.

“Sorry. What?” she said.

I spaced in front of the fireplace as the idea began to take root in my mind.

“It’s perfect!” I said. “If we get married, say, tomorrow, my parents will have to leave the house. Both of them. We’d have time to rescue the wolves.”

Monique jumped to her feet, her eyes blazing with a powerful purple magic. “We won’t be able to rescue them! Because we will be getting fuckingmarried! We’d be the center of attention. Everyone would notice if one or both of us left, even for a minute, let alone for the length of time it would take to rescue the boys.”

I grinned at her. “Yes, they would. Which is why we’re not going to leave our own wedding.”

Monique rolled her eyes and bunched her fists. Although I should rush ahead to explain how I thought we could rescue the guys, I was kind of enjoying the storm of emotion blowing through the room.

I put my hands behind my back and stared at her, facing her fury head-on. “Monique?”

“What?”

“What are you willing to do to save the wolves?”

“Anything.” She ground out the word, her tone deep and guttural. Almost shifter-like.

“Good. Because you’re gonna need that strength to pull off this spell.”

She blinked, her hands uncoiling. “I beg your pardon?”

I smiled and sat down on the couch again. “Sit with me, and I’ll explain.”

She sat, but she didn’t touch me. I would have been hurt, except that I understood her wariness came from worry about her shifter men.

“Tell me.” She said. “Now.”

I grinned as I began. “When I was young, I found a spell that allowed me to clone myself for up to 30 mins. It meant that I could skip school, or just had some time away from my parents. My father especially. I think that’s the answer to all this.”
