Chapter 2

XANDER

What the fuck was this guy going on about? He couldn’t seriously think that if he pulled some magic trick, he could just take away our fated mate? Ha. I’d die before I left this realm without Monique.

Slowly, I got to my feet, letting him see that I was taller and wider than him. I glared at him. “She’ll never be yours. She’s our fated mate. Destined for us. Meant to be. I don’t give a fuck who you think you are, but Monique is ours. Mine and Kyle’s.”

Michael, the warlock bastard, inclined his head. “I have to be certain. Don’t you also wish to know?”

“Know what?” I demanded, my gut in knots. I knew next to nothing about this magical world, which gave me no confidence in what Michael planned.

None whatsoever.

“If she’s really meant for you.” He spoke as though that fact was in doubt.

I laughed in his face as Kyle rose to his feet and stood beside me.

“We already know the answer to that,” Kyle said.

I nodded. “She’s our fated mate. Tried and tested. In our world, there’s nothing more. Fate chose her for me, and for Kyle. She was made for us, and we were made for her.”

Michael’s smile faltered, but the conviction in his expression did not. He was either one cocky bastard, or he wanted Monique as much as we did.

I didn’t care which. He wasn’t taking her away from us.

“You know for sure, wolf? Well, good for you. But I need magic to confirm it—one way or the other.”

His words hung in the air, and I wasn’t sure how to respond. The Alpha in me agreed that he had the right to be sure, also.

Damn it.

“Unless you’re worried she isn’t meant for you?” His voice rose in challenge, as did one of his eyebrows. “Maybe your instincts are off.”

“They’re not off,” I said between my clenched teeth.

“Never,” Kyle added.
