When he does, he reaches out and grabs me to pull me inside.

“I thought you were leaving town.” He gathers me in his arms and holds me tight.

“Tomorrow.”

“You lied to me?” he asks with a laugh.

“Say it again.” I tip my head back and meet his eyes.

“I love you.”

That feels good. So much better than I ever expected.

He kisses me. The same soft, cautious kisses that we started with the first time.

“Anybody using that room upstairs?” I tangle my fingers in his silky curls.

Gideon lifts his hand from my waist and flips the lock. He backs away, fingers sliding down my arm to link with mine. And he leads me to the backroom. We navigate the stairs in the dark and close the door, even though we’re alone.

And then we make music.
