I hugged him. “You’re my superhero, Dad.” And as I stepped away from him, I said, “And you’ll make a great superhero grandpa.”

My dad’s eyes shot to Ian. “Not yet I won’t.”

“Not yet, sir, not near yet,” Ian assured him quickly.

“A ring will be on my daughter’s finger before anything like that happens,” my dad ordered.

“I totally agree, sir,” Ian said.

“Excuse me,” I said, waving my hand. “Don’t I get a say in this?”

“No!” my dad said, and Ian wisely remained silent.

I smiled sweetly. “We’ll see about that.” I turned and walked away.

Ian was soon beside me. “Just so we’re clear on this. I hope to have children someday when the time is right, and when I’m married.”

There it was again that word… married. I was hearing it all too frequently.

“Good to know,” I said.

Snow was falling a bit more heavily when we stepped outside and walked to our vehicles. Ian’s cell rang just as we reached them.

I got into my vehicle and got the heat going then rolled down the window after Ian hung up.

“Can I borrow Mo again? I sent some of the photos of Mo to the publisher to see if he fit what they wanted for the mystery series and they love him. They want more in the fresh snow and since they know the snowstorm is about to hit us they got in touch right away so we could get the photos done. I can do some now and then more in deeper snow. I also got a text. The publisher who wanted the Viking covers wants some photos with all the Vikings together. It’s some type of promotion they decided on. To keep the photos uniform I need to get it done now since a couple of the models will be leaving soon. I just have to call Beau back. It won’t take long.”

“Are you sure about that. The snow can turn fast and heavy at any time. You guys could get stuck out there.” I shook my head. “No, Mo loves the snow and would guide you to the lodge once he stopped playing in it.”

“I’m not going to be stuck at the lodge without you in a snowstorm. I’ll do the few I need, then get the rest done after the storm. This way it gives me falling snow photos and freshly fallen snow as well. Nothing is going to keep me from spending this snowstorm with you. I have plans for us,” he said and leaned in the window to kiss me.

“Don’t be long,” I urged when the kiss ended, passion already poking at me.

“Dinnae worry, I wouldn’t be. Now go home so I know you’re safe.”

“I’m going to stop at the grocery store.”

“What could you possibly need there being a prepper?” he asked, curious.

“I have powered and boxed milk, but I know you don’t care for either of them. I’ll get the two percent organic you like in your tea.”

“You dinnae have to do that, Pep. I’d rather know you’re home safe.”

“I’ll text you as soon as I get home and the sooner we both get going, the sooner we get back together again.”

That got both of us moving.

My cell dinged with a text. My screen in the car told me it was from my mom, and I pressed to read it.

Make sure you stay home. This is going to be a doozy of a storm.

I didn’t have to worry to respond since she would receive a message that I was driving. My cell dinged again, and again it was from my mom.

Good. You’re driving home. Text me when you get there.

I planned to text her when I got to the grocery store.

Several texts came in after hers. My dad warning me to get home. Josh checking to see if I got home. My brother Danny checking on me and letting me know they closed the garden center and sent everyone home and he and Kelly were now home as well. Thomas texted, asking if I was snug at home, the school having had early dismissal and no school probably tomorrow and possibly the next as well.

Amy was the one who called, and I answered.

“Beau promised me nothing will stop him from spending this storm with me. I do hope so. I never minded spending a snowstorm alone, though I did enjoy the ones we spent together, but for some reason, this time I don’t want to be alone.”

“I wonder why… maybe someone is falling in love,” I teased.

There was silence from Amy which was unusual.

“Amy, are you all right?” I asked, worried.

“I think it’s my dad having been here and leaving. I say I’m glad that now I can let go and while I can, it still hurts.”

“And Beau is a distraction?”

“He’s more than that, though I still need time to figure it out. Thomas called to see if I was all right. He heard my dad left and wanted to see how I was doing. There’s that little part of me that still wonders if I truly love him or was it just a little girl in desperate need of someone to care for her? Then I wonder if it’s fair to Beau, keeping him around until I can decide what to do.”
