My wolf howls and frets. Burning my skin, tearing me up inside.
Fuck,it’s too much for me to control. I slip into a nearby alleyway, force it back down, deep inside me.
It’s been hell today. The worst it’s been ever since I lost control of it years back.
How could you leave her? it’s been bellowing from my guts, like it has a life of its own.
I tried my damned hardest.
After I tore myself away from Savannah’s sweet presence, I knew I had to get out of town if I was going to stand a chance of survival.
I went back to my RV, hooked up my trailer, hauled my bike on. I even started Bertha up and drove a little.
Then I pulled over on the highway and I sat, staring at the road ahead. My heart pumping hard enough to knock me out.
Every last bit of me was screaming to turn around, go back to Perdue Town.
She’s mine.
My mate.
Take her.
Protect her.
Lightning doesn’t strike twice.
Except for that one part of me—the part that had dragged my human self out of my wolf when I was lost in the forest, kept me sane all these years. Turned my head away from pretty girls who flirted with me.
Kept me alone and healthy and level-headed.
Was I really gonna throw all of that away?
Risk going back to that dark, dark place, of madness and inhumanity?
Even the thought of it cracked open that deep, deep chasm. Bony fingers of darkness clutching at me, dragging me down.
Well, I started up Bertha again, drove some more.
But I didn’t get very far before my hands froze. Could hardly get them to unclench enough to work the gear stick.
This went on a couple more times, and the whole time, my head was full of her.
My mate. The one my soul had craved all these years.
Because this thing I feel for Savannah, it’s like nothing else.
How could a man walk away from something like this and continue to live?
The life he’d have would be no life at all.
“Beau?” comes the voice of a pure angel. It pours through me like honey, trickles into my soul.
Crap,she’s out already. I thought she’d be another minute, fighting her own demons.
