“I need to go down to check on my condo in Laguna Beach again. I haven’t been there in weeks. My mail is sitting there, and I need to grab a suit for my interview on Monday.”

His lips flattened before saying the most unexpected thing. “How about I go with you to Laguna Beach? I’ll tell Daisy to give me a rain check for another night.”

“We’re making weekend plans now?” Two nights in a row?

He chuckled, kissing me softly. “Since we have two left, why not?”

With only a short runway until my commitment here was over, he’d evidently gotten comfortable about spending time together. “Okay.”

“I should be done by three o’clock. How about you?”

“By two at the latest.”

“Great, I’ll text once I’m on my way to pick you up here?” He leaned in for an unexpected kiss goodbye.

“Um, all right.”

I stood there watching him pull out of the driveway while wondering how the hell we’d gone from him freaking out about anything resembling a relationship to kissing goodbye and making plans for an entire weekend.

When I went back inside the house, Daisy was feeding Henry in the kitchen.

“I’m sorry we interrupted your morning.”

I shook my head while helping myself to the coffee Lucas had made. “This is your house. Please don’t apologize.” I paused before saying more, and she read my mind.

“Caleb is upstairs in the shower, so it’s just us. When did this start?”

“Uh, technically, the night of my sister’s wedding.”

Her forehead scrunched up. “I’m not sure I follow the timing.”

I filled her in, watching a myriad of emotions play across her face. “Holy crap.”

“Yeah. Sorry for not telling you sooner. But it was purely professional for a while.”

She waved me off. “I get it. Are you together?”

“No. We’re, um, friends with benefits with a time limit?”

Her brows went high. “Is that okay with you?”

I’d be lying if I said yes, so instead I went with what I kept telling myself. “I might be relocating soon, so we’re having fun in the meantime.”

She flashed a fond smile. “As long as you’re happy, I’m happy for you.”
