“Gah.” I slap my hand over my forehead, turning my face to the ceiling. “Your clues are terrible.”
He tickles my side, making me squeal and laugh, falling against him. “Come on, beautiful. Let’s go.”
I take his hand, letting him pull me to my feet.
Glancing over, I realize Vanessa and Darin, and my parents, are already waiting by the front door, talking and laughing. My eyes rove back to Max, who raises my hand to his lips, kissing the back of it.
A sigh of contentment escapes me as he pulls me closer.
“Are you having a great birthday, my love?”
“The best.” I’m positively giddy as I take in his handsome face. “You always make every day special. But birthdays, you are over the top.”
He grins. “You deserve it, baby. Every single day, but especially the day you were born.” His face lowers to mine, his fingers caressing my cheek. “It’s like you and I were made for each other.” His knuckles graze my cheek. “I don’t know how I got so fucking lucky… but you are every damn thing, Irelynn Rose.”
Heat radiates through my chest and I’m breathless from his words. Tears of joy well in my eyes as I step closer to him, my body flush against his. “I believe that with all my heart.” I pause, overwhelmed by all I feel for him. My voice cracks. “I love you with all of me, Max.”
His hands slide to my face, wiping away the tears falling over my cheeks, ruining my makeup. “I love you with all of me, Irelynn Rose.” His lips press against mine, the kiss tender, yet hinting at much more to come later. “I can’t wait to marry you.”
“I can’t wait either, my soon-to-be husband.”
Max grabs my hand, twirling me around, before guiding me through the front door. As I step outside onto the front porch, my hands fly to my mouth, my eyes huge.
His hands slide around my waist, clasping together over my stomach, his lips resting against my ear. “Do you like it, baby?”
Staring at the limousine in awe, I finally lower my hands, resting them on top of his. “When did you do this?”
He laughs. “That’s my secret.” He steps beside me, interlocking our hands together. “Come on, beautiful. Let’s go for a ride.”
Excitement courses through my veins. My eyes sparkle as we hurry to it. At least it feels like they do. Max opens the door and I slide in, surprised that the back seat is empty.
“Where are my parents? Darin and Vanessa?”
Max slips in beside me, then points over his shoulder. They are in a separate limo behind us, the windows down, hands frantically waving at me. The driver lowers my window, and I laugh at how excited the four of them are. My dad looks happier than a kid in a candy store.
Vanessa screams, “We’ll see you there, BBF.”
Max and I laugh as Darin grabs her, pulling her torso back inside the limo. “Get in here, you nut,” we hear him say with a laugh.
Turning to Max, I slide onto his lap, stretching my legs on the seat. His arms wrap around me as he nuzzles into the side of my neck.
“This is amazing, baby.” My hand grazes lovingly over his cheek.
He breathes me in, his smile spreading against my neck. “I’m glad you like it.”
“Of course I do. I love it.” Pressing my forehead against his, I lock my arms around his neck. “I love you.”
His lips meet mine, so gentle yet passionate. When he pulls back, he says, “I love you, gorgeous.”
When the limousine stops, Max lifts me from his lap, opening the door and stepping out. He holds out a hand for me, and I grip it, sliding from the lavish vehicle, my eyes sparkling as my mouth drops open at the sight of the majestic theater in front of me.
“You said you always wanted to go to a symphony. I’m treating all of us to a magical night here.”
I launch myself into his arms, tears of joy in my eyes. Max lifts me off my feet, swinging me around.
When he lowers me to my feet, Vanessa grabs me. “Stop twirling and let’s get inside. I can’t wait to check this place out.”
She links arms with me and Darin, and I link my other arm with Max, as we head toward the doors. My parents grin at us, laughing as they patiently stand by the entrance.
